This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service.
Duties
You will visually inspect optical instruments and associated components to determine the extent of repair, overhaul, modifications needed.
You will perform disassembly of optical systems and components to diagnose to piece part level for required repairs.
You will performs major overhaul consisting of inspection, disassembly, modification, assembly and adjustments dealing with precision optical elements.
You will perform final alignment after repairs by using precision test equipment to position optics in synchronization with mechanical shaft rotation, range measuring scales, and dials and electronic range sensing components.
You will determine which technical manual, technical documentation, drawings, schematics, engineering process instructions, and/or work instructions to use, to include determining the correct revision and/or change version.
You will enter all required data and information into systems, databases, and/or forms as directed by local policy and procedures.

- This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- You will be required to complete training, obtain, and maintain a government credit card for travel and travel-related purchases.
- You will be required to possess and maintain a current and valid certification as a Certified Technician.
- This position requires a State Criminal History Repository (SCHR) check to be completed on any person selected for this position. You must be willing and able to submit to a SCHR check.
