You will serve as a OPTICAL INSTRUMENT REPAIRER SUPERVISOR in the ESCT DIVISION, MARINE DEPOT MAINTENANCE COMMAND of MAINTENANCE CENTER ALBANY. ***TEMPORARY PROMOTION NOT TO EXCEED 1 YEAR AND MAY BECOME PERMANENT without further competition***

Duties

You will oversee the development of technical data, estimates, statistics, and other useful information. You will plan, schedule, observe, and monitor ongoing production-oriented work. You will ensure that all work is complete within the estimated budget of hours and materials and that all workmanship and products meet requirements. You will develop performance standards for subordinates.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO LEAD OR SUPERVISE: * Managing the operations of an optical instrument maintenance shop and the related methods, procedures, and equipment sufficient to recommend alternate machining techniques or procedures for more efficient operation. * Ability to recognize and analyze problems, conduct research, summarize results, and make appropriate recommendations. * Applying procedures, requirements, regulations, and policies related to specialized expertise in the work of the unit (such as engineering, accounting, supply, etc.), including the ability to maintain credibility with others on technical matters. * Interpreting instructions, specifications, blueprints, etc. * Ability to test, overhaul, repair, align, and collimate a variety of complex optical equipment containing a number of optical, mechanical, and electrical/electronic systems.
