Duties

Serves as Aviation Operations and Airspace Manager for the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE). Coordinates with the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and U.S. Army Aeronautical Services Agency (USAASA) Small Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (SUAS) and Group 3-4 Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) airspace access. Subject matter expert (SME) on the requirements for Department of Defense Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS) to fly in the National Airspace System as a Public Aircraft Operation. Organizes the USACE Aviation Community of Practice and facilitates flow of information between leaders and crewmembers for topics regarding standardization, training, and operations.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • Incumbent must complete the Defense Contract Management Agency (DCMA) GFR Certification Course upon initial position assignment and every five years thereafter.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Coordinating with Combatant Commands, Host Nation, and CONUS aviation elements for airspace access and aircraft configuration control; 2) Leading an Aviation program team to conduct surveys of locations where aviation contractors operate; 3) Developing detailed plans, milestone dates and schedules to ensure proper sequencing of events associated with managing flights throughout the mission life-cycle; AND 4) Analyzing airspace violations to the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12). Desired candidate will possess (current or previously) U.S. Military Officer Rated Pilot. Proof of current or previous experience as a U.S. Military Officer Rated Pilot will be documented via submitting a DD214 indicating "Pilot" or "Aviator" or other description as an U.S. Military Officer Rated Pilot. "Rated" refers to aeronautical ratings as authorized by Title 10, U.S.C. Resume should clearly state previous experience as a U.S. Military Officer Rated Pilot and proof of documentation. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Aviation OperationsDecision SupportPlanning and EvaluatingProject Management Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-13).
