Duties

You will perform installation, maintenance, troubleshooting and repair of a variety of domestic heating equipment and systems, such as heating boilers, hot water tanks, and other systems with similar heat sources, controls and circulating methods. You will replace defective burners, switches, fuel lines and cutoff assemblies. You will visually examine and operationally test electric, electronic, pneumatic and mechanical systems. You will service units by cleaning filters, strainers, orifices and ignition electrods and by adjusting dampers.

Requirements

  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: Ability to perform the work of a Heating Equipment Repairer WG-5309-08 without more than normal supervision as demonstrated by performing common tasks including 1) Installing, maintaining and repairing domestic heating equipment and systems such as heating boilers and hot water tanks; 2) Servicing domestic heating equipment and systems by cleaning filters, strainers, orifices and ignition electrodes and adjusting dampers; 3) Following work orders and instructions including blueprints, sketches, engineering drawings or written specifications. Applicants must meet the requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Job Qualification System for Trades and Labor Occupations (X-118C).
