The Office of Information Technology is responsible for providing information technology support to attorneys and support staff. The incumbent is responsible for supporting Justice Consolidated Office Network (JCON) office automation networks, servers, and desktops; information systems security and privacy; monitoring contractor/vendor requirements; and IT business research and development.

As an IT Specialist (Customer Support), typical work assignments include, but are not limited to, the following: Develops goals and objectives that integrate IT Solutions business, acquisition, and fiscal objectives. Achieves program costs, timely delivery of products and services, task order performance, and system supportability requirements. Assists the Chief Information Security Officer and Chief Information Officer in developing short- and long-term plans for Information Technology systems by identifying, evaluating, mitigating, and minimizing risks associated with IT systems vulnerabilities. Assesses core controls for the Department's Joint Cybersecurity Authorization Management. Serves as a Contract Officer Technical Representative (COTR) for information technology contracts and programs involving hardware, software, components, systems, and subsystems. Establishes analysis systems for units managed to assess efficiency, effectiveness, and responsiveness to customer requirements and concerns. Provides expert technical advice and guidance to senior management officials on the appropriate application of technology to Division mission and programs. Coordinates work and monitors vendors; in coordination with the Department's procurement office, uses the Unified Financial Management System to maintain financial obligations for IT services and licenses for the Division. Schedules and coordinates efforts to gather, compile, and analyze a wide variety of information on potential industry partners, e.g., past performance on state-of-the-art automation technology projects, management approach, product quality and reliability, etc.

Qualifications

To qualify for the IT Specialist (CUSTSPT), you must meet A) the four competencies and B) qualification requirements below. A) You must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below: Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations. B) Qualification Requirements: To qualify at the GS-12:You must have one year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-11 Federal grade level or above (obtained in either the public or private sectors) providing technical support to customers who need advice and assistance in applying hardware and software systems; identifying security risks associated with IT systems vulnerabilities; and advising on contractor activities for the implementation of information technology systems. To qualify at the GS-13: You must have one year of specialized experience at, or equivalent to, the GS-12 Federal grade level or above (obtained in either the public or private sectors) providing technical support to customers who need advice, assistance, and training in applying hardware and software systems; identifying, evaluating, and mitigating security risks associated with IT systems vulnerabilities; and monitoring contractor activities for the development, programming, testing, and implementation of information technology systems. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps; AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skill and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
