Duties
If selected, you will perform a range of public affairs and community outreach duties that involve the United States Attorney's Office. Duties include:
Executing campaigns to enhance understanding of the United States Attorney's initiatives.
Developing and maintaining effective working relationships with print and broadcast media representatives.
Preparing magazine and newspaper articles, brochures, news releases, booklets, etc., for publication and dissemination.
Arranging and coordinating for press conferences.
Conducting special events, workshops, and seminars.
Assisting personnel in other agencies and Departmental components on carrying out community relations activities.
Responsibilities will increase and assignments will become more complex as your training and experience progress.
Requirements
- You must be a U.S. Citizen or National.
- Initial appointment is conditioned upon a satisfactory pre-employment adjudication. This includes fingerprint, credit and tax checks, and drug testing. Continued employment is subject to a favorable adjudication of a background investigation.
- You must be registered for Selective Service, if applicable.
- If selected, you may be required to complete a one year probationary period.
- Time-in-Grade: Federal employees must meet time-in-grade requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement.
- You must meet all qualification requirements within 30 days after the closing date of this announcement and before placement in the position.
Qualifications
GS-09: To be eligible at the GS-09 level, you must meet at least ONE (1) of the following conditions as defined below:
Specialized Experience: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-07 in the Federal service. Specialized experience is defined as:(1) planning, designing, preparing, editing and evaluating news releases; (2) using of a variety of research methods to prepare talking points, speeches and presentations on complex matters; (3) coordinating, organizing and planning media events; (4) developing and maintaining professional relationships with news media in a major media market; (5) experience developing digital strategy campaigns using diverse digital media platforms and tools (such as Instagram, Facebook, Twitter, Google Analytics, and content management systems) to drive public awareness, disseminate public interest and public safety information; (6) experience developing and executing communication plans, events and outreach; (7) responding to information requests from the media, the general public and specialized groups and organizations.
Education: One of the following types of education in a related field (e.g., Communications, Public Administration, Public Relations, Public affairs or Political Science): a Master's or equivalent graduate degree; OR two (2) full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; OR LL.B. or J.D., if related. Education must be in an accredited college or university and must demonstrate the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to perform the duties of the position.
Combining Education and Experience: A combination of experience and graduate level education can be used if, when combined, are equivalent to 100% of the qualification requirement. (Only graduate education in excess of one full year is creditable.)
Interagency Career Transition Assistance Plan (ICTAP)- The ICTAP provides eligible displaced Federal competitive service employees with selection priority over other candidates for competitive service vacancies.
