Duties
Receive notification of death of active duty and retired military personnel occurring within jurisdiction of command.
Explain death gratuity payment, burial arrangements and rights, financial assistance, education programs for widow/widower and dependent children.
Explain travel of dependents, insurance, Survivors Benefit Plan, Social Security benefits, VA benefits, state benefits, civil service benefits, required new ID Cards, etc.
Notifiy DA Casualty, and DCSPER Adjutant General, or someone higher in command when chief is not available, upon receipt of notification of death in the Caribbean Region.
Serve as point of contact for military personnel to provide guidance and assistance on handling of sensitive matters, initiate and/or coordinate actions (such as making arrangements for military funeral.
Exercise considerable compassion, patience, and tact in dealing with civilian agencies and individuals.
Prepare monthly status reports on casualties and funerals. Maintains up-to-dates SOP.
Provide administrative support of Casualty Working Group.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- A one year probationary period may be required.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- Incumbent may be required to work nights, holidays, and weekends.

Specialized Experience-
GS-09: To qualify, applicants must have one year or more of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade/level. Specialized experience includes performing administrative duties such as preparing casualty reports, responding to request for information regard casualty operations; assisting in arranging and providing personnel for military funeral honors; and coordinating memorial affair operations. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07).
OR
Education: Successfully completed two full years of graduate level education leading to a master's degree (36 semester hours) in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as Business Administration, Public Administration. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.)
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages.

Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
