About the Position: The incumbent will serve as a Watch Officer for USSOUTHCOM at the Operations Directorate in Miami, FL.
Duties
Administer daily operations of the U.S. Southern Command (USSOUTHCOM) Joint Operations Center (JOC) Watch ensuring strict compliance to established communications and operational procedures.
Monitor the disposition of U.S. forces throughout the area of responsibility, providing timely and accurate situational data to the USSOUTHCOM Command Group, Joint Chiefs of Staff (JCS), and USSOUTHCOM Operations Director.
Assess changes to readiness, that affect the Commander's Critical Information Criteria, creating and rendering an accurate analysis of each situation.
Serve as a conduit for operational information and execute USSOUTHCOM Emergency Action and Crisis notification procedures.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Position requires a Security Clearance at the TOP SECRET/Special Sensitive Level as the incumbent will be required to access, process, use, and safeguard classified National Defense information.
- This position is covered by the Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program.
- The incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019 (Condition of Employment for Certain Positions Identified as Critical Under the Drug Abuse Testing Program).
- Must pass urinalysis testing, as required prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- TDY can be anticipated. Travel by military and/or commercial aircraft may be required in attending training, visiting other activities, and/or attending conferences up to 10% of the time.
- Incumbent must possess or obtain a current and valid passport.
- This position is subject to uncommon tours of duty and/or shift work. Employee may be recalled to duty with little or no notice.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes 1). Analyze security reports to determine threat levels in preparation of response; 2). Manage lines of communication to ensure operational plans are in sync for organizational readiness; and 3). Provide guidance to personnel regarding the planning and deployment of organizational operations.
This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-12 or above).
