About the Position: This position serves as a Food Services Specialist responsible for the overall planning and coordinating of food service support provided by the Cadet Mess.

Duties

You will plan or coordinate food service support to a variety of locations. You will oversee the execution of food and/or service support allocated to specialty food service operations. You will develop customer projections of daily meals. You will maintain records of groups attending meals. You will communicate orally and in writing to give group presentations, advise customers, prepare project papers, staff reports, and/or participate in planning sessions. You will provide information verbally and in writing to customers such as types of menus available, room configurations, service styles, available facilities, tentative dates, and/or procedures used to make reservations for such services.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed Tier 1 background investigation.
  • Appointment to this position is subject to a one year probationary period unless you have previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. While probationary, you can be terminated with limited appeal rights.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: (1) assisting with meal planning and/or food service operations; (2) maintaining food service records; (3) communicating orally and/or in writing to internal and/or external customers; and (4) prepare reports and/or correspondence utilizing office automation software such as Microsoft Office. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-07). OR Education: Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Food Services, Food Program Management, Culinary Science, Business Administration or other fields related to the position. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the first year (total graduate semester hours minus 18) by 18. Add the two percentages. (Note: You must attach a copy of your transcripts.) You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: CommunicationsData AnalysisFood Service Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-07).
