You will serve as a PUBLIC AFFAIRS SPECIALIST (COMMUNITY OUTREACH MANAGER) in the FORCE PUBLIC AFFAIRS OFFICE (Code N01P) of COMNAVSURFLANT.
Duties
You will develop and execute comprehensive plans to enhance public awareness and favorability of the Surface Force through community outreach programs and initiatives.
You will lead the planning and execution of special events, ceremonies, and public engagements that involve SURFLANT assets, personnel, and leadership.
You will coordinate logistics, manage vendor relationships, and ensure that all events align with the command's public affairs objectives and enhance the Navy’s public image.
You will manage the Community Relations budget for SURFLANT activities and units, including the preparation of annual budget requests and ensuring the proper allocation and use of funds
You will provide formal outreach training to prospective Surface Group Commanders, Squadron Commodores, and Commanding/Executive Officers.
You will assist the Public Affairs Officer (PAO) and Deputy Public Affairs Officer (DPAO) in managing all media inquiries, coordinating responses, and ensuring that accurate and timely information is provided to the media.
Requirements

- You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final Secret security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
- Position requires the individual to be available for on-call work for assignments as required by upper
level management.
Qualifications
To qualify for a GS-12, your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-11 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
Experience interpreting public affairs policies and instructions
Experience developing community outreach programs, displaying strong communication skills, and effectively working with internal and external program stakeholders.
Experience maintaining official websites, social media accounts, and/or content management systems for public affairs information dissemination
Experience in social media, budgeting, media relations, and the ability to manage multiple initiatives.
Experience writing speeches, news articles, and/or briefs to disseminate information.
Experience coordinating internal personnel and resources for participation in community relations events.
Experience displaying an understanding of military culture and community relations.
