This position is located in the News and Science Writing Branch (NSWB), Office of Communications and Government Relations (OCGR), Office of Science Management and Operations (OSMO), Office of the Director (OD), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), National Institutes of Health (NIH), Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS).

Duties

If selected for this position, your duties may include, but are not limited to the following: A first-level supervisor within the NSWB, the incumbent oversees the subordinate staff in planning, writing, editing, and managing the content of various communications vehicles used in disseminating information on NIAID programs, activities, priorities, and accomplishments. Represent, or designate subordinate staff members to represent, the OCGR and NIAID at meetings with NIH and other government agencies to convey information on Institute programs, policies, and direction relating to media relations, communications, and outreach. Participate with the Branch Chief in identifying and resolving complex communications issues and advises the Branch Chief and other OCGR officials on the use of various communications vehicles and approaches in advancing the goals and objectives of the Institute with regard to the development and dissemination of information. As a Supervisory Writer-Editor in OD/OSMO/OCGR/NSWB, the incumbent exercises the full range of authority normally carried out by a first-level supervisor over a subordinate staff of Technical Writer-Editors at the GS-13 full performance level.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship requirement or proof of being a U.S. National must be met by closing date.

Qualifications

To qualify for the Supervisory Technical Writer-Editor GS-14 level, if you meet the following qualification requirements: You must have 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-13 level in the Federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks: writing and editing papers that translate research and communicate the institute's programs and activities, particularly those involving major plans, policies, and research advances directed toward improving the health and well-being among various populations; providing a full range of editorial support to management and professional staff on materials intended for publication or presentation; managing the research, development and composition of a wide variety of written initiatives concerning complex scientific topics; planning and directing information dissemination approaches; and providing advice on public affairs and communications matters to high-ranking personnel.
