The Nurse Practitioner position is located within the Intramural Research Program (IRP), National Institute of Arthritis and Musculoskeletal and Skin Diseases (NIAMS), National Institutes of Health (NIH). The IRP plans and conducts a program of laboratory and clinical research related to various arthritic, autoimmune, musculoskeletal and skin diseases to insure maximum utilization of available resources in attainment of institute objectives.
Duties
This position requires certification as a Family Nurse Practitioner that allows the provider to provide treatment to both pediatric and adult patients.
Provide medical evaluation and care to pediatric and adult individuals participating in clinical research programs of the IRP.
Provide screening of new pediatric and adult subjects who are candidates for protocols, medically managing them while on protocol and providing their follow-up care.
Act as a professional nurse practicing in an expanded role participating as a member of a multidisciplinary team providing comprehensive care to adult patients participating in clinical research studies conducted within the IRP.
Function independently as a Nurse Practitioner for patients participating in the clinical research programs of the IRP.
Provide diagnostic and therapeutic services, health care maintenance, education and counseling for volunteer patients participating in the clinical research program.
Perform admitting history and physical examinations.
Perform or requests screening diagnostic tests.
Develop and implements a plan for care in collaboration with other members of the health care team.
Recognize major and minor variations in health status and collaborates with the physician for the management of the patient's medical care requirements.
Maintain complete and current patient record which includes history, physical examination, problem identification, plan of care, interventions made and evaluation of response.

Qualifications
You meet the basic qualification requirements for this Advanced Practice Nurse (Nurse Practitioner) position if you:
Possess a graduate or higher level degree in nursing from an accredited educational program in the area of expertise or specialty indicated by the position. NOTE: Degree from a Foreign Nursing School: Official certification from the Commission on Graduates of Foreign Nursing Schools is required for individuals who graduated from foreign nursing schools;
AND
Have passed the National Council Licensure Examination for Registered Nurses (NCLEX-RN) or obtained licensure before the implementation of the NCLEX-RN. Individuals who have not passed the NCLEX-RN, but meet all other qualification requirements will be subject to a comprehensive evaluation of both their education and experience prior to final appointment;
AND
Possess a current, active, full and unrestricted license, or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States in the clinical specialty required by the position which is a Family Nurse Practitioner Certification.
AND
Additional qualification requirements for the GS-0610-13:
In addition to the basic requirements above, you must have at least 1 year of professional nursing experience equivalent to at least the GS-12 level in the federal service obtained in either the private or public sector, performing the following types of tasks:
providing comprehensive pediatric and adult nursing care in a clinical or research setting;
independently providing patient and family counseling and health education to patient populations;
independently assessing acute and non-acute clinical problems; and
collaborating with multidisciplinary research teams to ensure that patient management strategies are successful in meeting patient care and research needs.
