This position is located in the Department of Health and Human Services, Office of the Secretary of Health and Human Services, Office of the Chief Information Officer, located in Rockville, Maryland and Washington, District of Columbia.

Duties

Establishes connectivity between remote sites, creating network maps, and troubleshooting network problems. Serves as a network administrator responsible for configuring devices. Develops requirements for the acquisition of network hardware, software, and services participating on acquisition teams. Serves as a resource providing technical guidance to team members or other information technology (IT) specialists explaining approach and methods, coordinating efforts to enhance network services reliability. Research options for problem resolution and recommendations. Presents in writing or orally to audiences within and external to DHHS identifying priorities and barriers to project accomplishment. Ensures all guidance and work products comply with IT security requirements.

Qualifications

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Basic AND Specialized Experience requirements as noted below. Basic Requirement: You must meet all of the items listed below: Attention to Detail - Ensures that work is completed in a timely and satisfactory manner by establishing priorities and deadlines. Customer Service - Works with program offices and their partners through technical guidance and assistance. Oral Communication - Delivers presentations and explanations to decision makers at all levels with varying technical knowledge. Problem Solving - Identifies and problem-solves network service issues with programs. Specialized Experience: GS-12: You must possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the GS-11 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing (3) of the (4) duties listed below: Troubleshooting and improving systems to solve complex problems and provide support that minimizes interruptions in service to customers. Configuring system software and hardware to manage the network and carry out network projects within the organization. Leading and executing complex IT projects with relation to networking. Applying technical proficiency in computer systems (i.e. Microsoft, Linux/Unix server, switches, Cisco IOS, Cisco ISE). Time-in-Grade Requirement: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). You must include an SF-50 (you may need to submit more than one) that supports meeting this requirement with your application package.
