About the position: This position will be assigned to the 773 FSS Hillberg Ski Area on JBER, AK. This is a Regular Full-Time position. Regular Full-Time employees have a regular and continuous work schedule of at least 35 hours to a maximum of 40 hours per week. Duties

Under the direction of the Outdoor Recreation Director, perform the below duties year-round ensuring the safe operations of Outdoor Activities to include Hillberg Ski Resort, OAP, and Otter Lake. Teaches, organizes, assesses, and administers outdoor recreation program safety guidelines. Serves as the Subject Matter Expert (SME) for Outdoor activities/programs and develops local compliance procedures to address life, health, and safety related problems. Observes weather conditions to determine current and short-term weather factors and ascertains if safe operations are possible. Ensures programs operate in compliance with all applicable regulations, laws, and operating instructions. Responds to accidents or other traumatic incidents, attends the injured, ascertains nature of injuries and extends appropriate first aid procedures, or assists with procedures already in progress. Escorts, evacuates, or assists with evacuation of patients to ambulance, field station, or hospital by most expeditious mode of transportation. Continues first aid procedures in transit, as necessary, until relieved by other competent personnel. Extends first aid training to other personnel and/or instructs in the techniques for managing injuries. Plans, organizes, and directs program activities such as, but not limited to, white water rafting, kayaking, fishing, clamming, ATVing, hiking and canoeing. Keeps manager informed of marginal or dangerous conditions on a continuing basis. Serve as an enforcing agent for customer violations under current procedures and protocols. Plans and administers pre-trip safety briefings. Instructs developing volunteer ski patrol and Outdoor Adventure Program (OAP) personnel in objectives and techniques used for ski patrol operations and outdoor rescue. Recommends actions according to condition of environment. Establishes and maintains adequate inventory of supplies and equipment required to provide safe, uninterrupted operations. Operates general and special purpose vehicles to include pickup trucks, Snowcats, ATV's, snow-machines, and boats. Will be required to work an uncommon tour of duty including evenings, weekends, and holidays; work often requires working outdoors in inclement weather. May be required to travel away from JBER. Performs other duties as assigned. This is a drug testing position. The incumbent is subject random testing. Requirements

  • This position requires the incumbent to complete a background investigation with favorable results.

  • The duties of this position require the incumbent to possess or obtain and maintain a valid state Driver's License in one of the 50 U.S. states or possessions to operate vehicles.

You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Must possess or be able to obtain First aid and CPR certification (must obtain within 60 days of employment). Must possess or be able to obtain equal to or exceeding Outdoor Emergency Care Certification or Wilderness First Responder & Swift Water Rescue Technician certification (must obtain within 180 days of employment). Applicant must be able to communicate effectively both orally and in writing with individuals and groups. Working knowledge and ability to teach/lead outdoor activities, i.e. white-water rafting, kayaking, hiking, Alpine and Nordic skiing, snowboarding, downhill skiing, tubing, ATVing, snow machining, etc. Must have knowledge that ensures compliance with regulations, laws and requirements for health and safety. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas:
