The primary purpose of this position is to assist the Warrior Zone (WZ) director/facility lead in planning, directing, organizing, and exercising control over family and Single Service member programs for the WZ. May be tasked to support events at the Arctic Oasis (AO), Arctic Warrior Event Center (AWEC), and base theaters (Talkeetna and Frontier) as needed.
Duties
Plans, organizes, and executes special events and activities for the Community Program segment of the Warrior Zone Activity, ensuring that the 773 FSS complies with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs.
Leads Recreation Assistants during special events.
Represents the Community Center with a variety of installation and functional area organizations.
Develops comprehensive short- and long-term program budgets and fiscal requirements to meet WZ program objectives and maintain internal control.
Provides oversight and guidance on all aspects of the Better Opportunities for Single Soldiers "BOSS" program to include budget, policies, implementation, and integrating the requirements of the BOSS program.

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions, Recreation Specialist Series 0188.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-05, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes planning, organizing, coordinating, supervising, or evaluating community, industrial, outdoor, institutional, or other recreational programs; planning, establishing, or evaluating a recreational curriculum for junior college or higher academic levels; instructing in the principles and techniques of recreational program planning and management; or serving in a leadership role in the programs and activities of local, regional, and/or national recreational organizations.

EDUCATION: Successfully completed one full academic year of graduate-level education with a major study in a subject area related to the position to be filled OR have a bachelor's degree in a subject area related to the position and are claiming Superior Academic Achievement. COMBINATION OF EXPERIENCE AND EDUCATION: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your college transcripts.
FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time--in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-05 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas:
1. Knowledge of the principles, practices and procedures used to manage Community Center sponsored programs.
2. Knowledge of safety and security regulations, practices, and procedures.
3. Knowledge of procedures to assist in developing and executing both APF and NAF budgets for specific programs.
4. Skill in effectively organizing and utilizing all available community resources within the specific program framework.
5. Ability to plan, organize, and direct the functions and staff of an activity within the scope of the Community Center.
6. Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
