This position is located with Bureau of Indian Affairs, Office of the Superintendent, Minnesota Agency in Bemidji, Minnesota. The incumbent will be responsible for ensuring the timely preparation of probate cases, maintaining accurate probate filing and tracking systems, and supporting the BIA probate function.
Duties
Performing technical and assistance work in the support of a Legal Administrative Specialist (Probate) and the probate process
Maintaining data in an automated tracking system from "notification of death until distribution of trust assets" occurs
Changing appropriate records (manual and automated) to reflect changes in records as a result of Orders issued by the Administrative Law Judges or Attorney Decision Makers
Maintaining statistical records on estate planning

Qualifications
In addition to the qualification requirements below, candidates must possess a typing ability of 40 words per minute. You are permitted to self- certify as information on your application/resume and by responding to TYPING PROFICIENCY in the occupational questionnaire.
Applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements may qualify for the position at the GS-4 level:
Possess one (1) year of general experience in the public or private sector that involves progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Examples of qualifying work experience include work experience reviewing legal documents or other comparable document(s) for completeness and accuracy; work that demonstrates providing information on steps to complete various business transactions; work that demonstrates accomplishing work to meet deadlines; work experience building memorandums, correspondence or various business documents using an automated system; work experience that demonstrates use of information systems and software to accomplish work demonstrating communication with the general public to obtain pertinent information, or work experience that demonstrates use of office administration hardware such as telephone, fax machine, and email systems. OR
Successful completion of 2 years of education above the high school level. OR
Possess a combination of experience as described in A and education as described in above which totals 100% of the requirement for 1 year of general experience. The equivalent of 30 semester hours or 45 quarter hours (beyond the 2nd year of attendance) is equivalent to 6 months of general experience.
Applicants who meet at least one of the following requirements may qualify for the position at the GS-5 level:
Possess one (1) year of specialized experience at/or equivalent to the GS-4 level in the public or private sector assisting probate specialists by providing technical and assistance work in support of probate processes; maintaining data tracking system(s) for probate processes using automated systems; assisting with incoming and outgoing mail for a probate organization ensuring timeframes are adhered to when applicable. OR
Successful completion of four (4) years of education above the high school level. OR
Possess a combination of education and specialized experience listed above totaling 100%. Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours is creditable as a substitute for specialized experience.
Applicants who meet the following requirement may qualify for the position at the GS-6 level:
Possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-5 level in the federal service assisting probate specialists by providing technical assistance work in support of probate processes; maintaining data tracking systems; preparing necessary and proper documentation for distribution of trust assets to close estate accounts; assembling outgoing material according to policy procedures; filing and maintaining probate records; & assisting with incoming and outgoing mail.
Applicants who meet the following requirement may qualify for the position at the GS-7 level:
Possess one (1) year of specialized experience equivalent at/or equivalent to the GS-6 in the public or private sector assisting probate specialists in the preparation of guidance in estate planning; evaluating probate records in relation to legal documents; changing appropriate probate records to reflect changes as a result of legal decisions; interviewing callers to evaluate extent of client's probate knowledge to advise them of probate options; preparing necessary and proper documentation for distribution of trust assets to close estate accounts; assembling outgoing material according to policy procedures; and filing and maintaining probate records.
