Joining the Secret Service, Office of Protective Operations, Presidential Protective Division, will allow you to utilize personnel security automated systems to determine the right of entry for pass holders, visitors, contract workers, media, and couriers requesting access to protected and secure installations.

Duties

The selectee will serve as a Physical Security Specialist (Access Control) in the Presidential Protective Division. Typical work assignments include: Receiving and verifying access request forms to ensure all basic required information is provided. Following administrative procedures associated with the handling of classified documents to include responsibility for reporting violations of administrative security. Researching and submitting background investigative data for review and interpretation of information. Evaluating the nature and degree of derogatory information and making recommendations as to the security risk posed. Electronically capturing fingerprints using Live Scan technology.

Applicants must demonstrate that they meet the Minimum Qualification for the GS-09 and/or GS-11 requirements as noted below: Minimum Qualifications: GS-09: You qualify for the GS-09 level (starting salary $69,405.00) if you possess one of the following: Applicant must possess one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-07 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties: Reviewing access request forms; Compiling, analyzing and/or evaluating investigative data; and Conducting background checks by assessing law enforcement automated databases and systems. NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. OR You have successfully completed a Master's or equivalent graduate degree; or (two) 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree; or LL.B. or J.D., if related at an accredited college or university. NOTE: You must submit a copy of your college transcripts (official or unofficial) to support your claim. OR You have a combination of specialized experience (less than one year) and graduate education (less than two years) that when combined equals 100% of the qualification requirement. NOTE: Only graduate education in excess of one year (generally 18 semester hours) may be used in this calculation. You must submit a copy of your college transcripts (official or unofficial) and your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet the experience, otherwise you will be found ineligible. GS-11: You qualify for the GS-11 level (starting salary $82,764.00) if you possess one of the following: Applicant must possess one full year of specialized experience comparable in scope and responsibility to the GS-09 level in the Federal service (obtained in either the public or private sectors) performing the following duties: Evaluating derogatory information and making recommendations on security risks posed; Analyzing investigative data, to recommend course of action as it relates to potential security risks; and Utilizing the regulations and policies associated with HSPD-12 credentialing operations. NOTE: Your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet this requirement, otherwise you will be found ineligible. OR You have successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree, or three full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree, or LL.M., if related, from an accredited college or university that provided the knowledge skills, and abilities necessary to perform this work. Note: You must submit a copy of your college transcripts (unofficial or official) to support your claim. OR You have a combination of specialized experience (less than one year) and graduate education (beyond 2 years of graduate education), that when combined equals 100% of the qualification requirement. Note: Only graduate education in excess of two years (generally 36 semester hours) may be used in this calculation. You must submit a copy of your college transcripts (unofficial or official) and your resume must explicitly indicate how you meet the experience to support your claim. Time-in-Grade Requirements: Under competitive merit promotion procedures, any individual who is currently holding, or who has held within the previous 52 weeks, a General Schedule position under a non-temporary appointment in the competitive or excepted service, must meet "time-in-grade" requirements (have served 52 weeks at the next lower grade of the grade for which you are applying). Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to current employees applying for a Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment. NOTE: All current or former Federal employees must provide a copy of their SF-50 (you may need to submit more than one), "Notice of Personnel Action" that indicates proof of status and time-in-grade eligibility. The SF-50 must include your position, title, series, grade, step, tenure (1 or 2), and type of service (Competitive or Excepted). All qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement. Qualification claims will be subject to verification. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
