This position is located at the Gym and Fitness Center which is part of the Morale, Welfare and Recreation Department aboard Naval Air Station, Jacksonville, Florida. Incumbent serves as a Group Exercise Instructor demonstrating and leading safe and effective group exercise classes, applying the fundamental principles of exercise science, under the supervision of the assigned manager.

Duties

Major Duties: Responsible for conducting one or more group exercise classes which includes but is not limited to lectures, exercise instruction and various athletic endeavors. Must promote good patron relationships and enhance the image of the respective program. The incumbent reviews the schedule of functions that are to take place during the assigned shift in order to ascertain what special preparation are required. Ensures that necessary space, supplies and equipment are available and that room arrangements are complete prior to start of class. Provides instructional and guidance to all patrons. Exercises supervision over all operation of the class/activity. Performs other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Must be 18 years or older.
  • Must meet Federal Employment suitability requirements and successful completion of background investigation. Background investigations are conducted using fingerprint identification and completion of background inquiry forms.
  • Must successfully pass the E-verify employment verification check. Any discrepancies must be resolved as a condition of employment.
  • You must go through a Personal Identity Verification (PIV) process that requires two forms of identification from the Form I-9.
  • May be required to pass pre-employment examinations.
  • Must provide proof of U.S. Citizenship or U.S. National.
  • A valid State driver's license is required to operate motor vehicles.
  • Must have your salary sent to a financial institution of your choice by Direct Deposit/Electronic Funds Transfer.
  • Must possess and maintain at all times a Certified Group Exercise Instructor/Trainer.
  • Must possess and maintain at all times a Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) and First Aid Instructor certificate.

Qualifications

Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Must possess and maintain at all times a Certified Group Exercise Instructor/Trainer. Must possess and maintain at all times a CPR and First Aid Instructor certificate. Must be mature individual with prior leader/supervisory experience. Must possess an adequate level of physical fitness to use and demonstrate all exercises and be able to lead all classes. Excellent written and verbal communication ad interview skills are required to assess patrons needs and assist with the promotion and marketing of the program. Considerable tact and diplomacy as well as finesse are required when interacting with participants. Basic knowldge of marketing/publicity materials and the use of basic computer hardware and software is preferred. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer and part time experience. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., professional, philanthropic, religious, spiritual, community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment.
