The primary purpose of this position is to operate buses capable of carrying 16 or more passengers on public roads (or equivalent) in a full range of traffic conditions and at highway speeds.

Duties

Drives one or more types of passenger buses which carry 16 or more passengers. Performs operator maintenance. Maintains records and documents actions. Utilizes safety practices and procedures following established safety rules and regulations and maintains a safe and clean work environment.

  • Disclosure of Political Appointments
  • Incumbent must possess or have the capability to acquire a Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) with a P (passenger) endorsement within 3 months of assignment. This requirement is a condition of employment.
  • Position requires the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth
  • The employee may be required to work other than normal duty hours, which may include evenings, weekends, and/or holidays
  • Shift work may be required.
  • May be required to drive other types of motor vehicles on a non-recurring or incidental basis
  • This position has been designated by the Air Force as a Testing Designated Position (TDP) under the Air Force Civilian Drug Demand Reduction Program. Employee must pass initial and periodic short notice drug testing.
  • Illegal drug use by employees in sensitive positions presents a clear threat to the mission of the Air Force, national security, and public safety
  • This position requires a physical/medical examination. The physical requirements of this position as determined by the manager are: Physical effort is moderate to heavy
  • Work requires reaching, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls
  • Associated duties require stooping, bending, and climbing. Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds and heavier objects with assistance
  • Overtime may be required. May occasionally require travel away from the normal duty station and travel on military and/or commercial aircraft
  • May be required to perform other duties in support of extended mission requirements based on the scope of the mission during times of conflict or staffing shortages. May have additional duties assigned
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance
  • IAW DoDI 3020-42 this position has been locally or command designated as Mission Essential (ME); needed to ensure the continued operation of mission essential functions of the activity
  • Mission Essential personnel may be required to report for duty at normal times when the base is closed or delayed reporting, and remain on duty during phased or early release
  • This is a Mission-Essential position performing a Mission-Critical- Function which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5700 Transportation/Mobile Equipment Operation Group. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed, and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time. The screen out element for this position is ability to do the work of a WG-5703 MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATOR more than normal supervision. without JOB ELEMENTS: Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of operating buses capable of carrying 16 or more passengers or other vehicles with a GVW of more than 26,000 and up to 32,000 pounds. 2. Knowledge of traffic and safety regulations, practices, and procedures pertaining to motor vehicle operation (buses); and passenger safety rules including those regarding the use of seatbelts. 3. Ability to communicate orally, and be courteous and responsive to the needs of the passengers. 4. Ability to judge road/traffic conditions and read maps to determine the shortest and safest route. 5. Ability to interpret instructions, specifications, etc. related to motor vehicle operation (buses), preventive maintenance, and passenger safety. 6. Ability to arrive at stops within prescribed time frames and to meet pickup and delivery deadlines. Physical Effort Physical effort is moderate to heavy. Work requires reaching, turning, or moving hands, arms, feet, and legs to operate hand and foot controls. Associated duties require stooping, bending, and climbing. Lifts and carries objects weighing up to 40 pounds and heavier objects with assistance. Working Conditions Drivers work mostly outside and operate vehicles in all kinds of traffic and weather on public roads (or equivalent), and are exposed to the danger of serious accidents. Drivers are exposed to dirt, fumes, and to the possibility of cuts, bruises, and broken bones as a result of accidents when loading and unloading the vehicle. They drive in heavy traffic and at highway speeds over complicated road and interchange systems. PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
