You will serve as a HOUSING MANAGEMENT SPECIALIST in the FAMILY HOUSING of NAVAL SUBMARINE BASE NEW LONDON.

Duties

You will counsel and advise inbound and outbound personnel on various policies, rules, and regulations that may affect their pay, allowances, eligibility and entitlements. You will determine housing eligibility utilizing criteria contained in existing regulatory instructions and current utilization and occupancy data in order to recommend approval or disapproval. You will monitor leases and rental agreements to ensure compliance with housing practices. You will investigate allegations of discrimination practices by owners, landlords, or property managers in the rental or sale of community housing to enforce Equal Opportunity standards. You will conduct joint tenant-management inspections of housing to evaluate the cleanliness, maintenance, and habitability of the unit, furnishings, equipment, and facilities.

Requirements

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.
  • Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.

Qualifications

Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Interpreting and implementing housing policies and procedures; 2) Resolving housing resident concerns and complaints; 3) Conducting facility inspections to ensure adherence to guidelines; and 4) Counseling customers regarding community housing, standards of conduct, procedures for addressing landlord/tenant disputes and fiscal responsibility. Education

In lieu of specialized experience, you may qualify with the following education or combination of both education and experience:

I have successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree.
OR
Successful completion of two full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a master's degree.
OR
Successful completion of an LL.B. or J.D. that is related to the position being filled.
OR
A combination of experience and education as described above that equates to one year of experience.
