You will serve as a HEAVY MOBILE EQUIPMENT MECHANIC in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC ENGINEERING CMD MID-ATLANTIC.
Duties
You will inspect and diagnose heavy mobile equipment to verify maintenance service needed.
You will determine tools and equipment to use to inspect or repair heavy mobile equipment and vehicles.
You will test functionality of heavy mobile equipment after all repairs are complete.
You will assist in the inspection process as needed in the diagnoses and troubleshooting failures and improvises replacement, assembly, repair, and techniques when standard procedures and available guides do not apply.

- Employees are required to obtain a Commercial Driver's License (CDL) as well as a Government Driver's License within 180 days after reporting on-board.

- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.

The Screen-out Element for this position is: 1) Using heavy duty hand tools, special tools, and test equipment to repair, maintain, modify and test gasoline and diesel-powered mobile equipment such as bulldozers, cranes, graders, power shovels, trucks, buses, firefighting, weight handling (to 150-ton capacity), crawler cranes and emergency generators (up to 700 KW) and other miscellaneous equipment; 2) Diagnosing problems, disassembling, repairing, fitting, assembling and adjusting systems, such as torque converters, planetary gears, multi-shift transmissions, fuel injection systems, air systems, compressors, valves, electrical systems, including wiring and delicate, complex electrical controls; and 3) Making modifications to equipment to meet requirements.
