This position is located in a Conservation Planning and Technical Assistant Division, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS), US Department of Agriculture (USDA).
The incumbent serves as a Secretary to the Division Director, providing secretarial and executive level assistance.
Duties
Serves as the executive secretary and office manager for the Division Director.
Ensures that policies and practices followed correctly and consistently by support staff.
Performs a variety of administrative functions to provide effective management of the office including support to the Conservation Planning and Technical Assistant Division Team.
Prepares agendas for, and documents minutes of staff meetings.
Works within a team concept to develop and implement ways to improve the efficiency, effectiveness, and quality of the products and/or services provided to internal and external customers.
Drafts and reviews written correspondence for internal and external customers including decision makers and legislative staff.
Requirements

- Physical Demands: The work is sedentary. The incumbent is required to drive a motor vehicle on public highways, private roads, and rural roads. Continued:
- Physical Demands cont.: This is incidental to the performance of other duties and is usually done in daylight hours and occasionally after dark. A valid driver's license is required.
- Work Environment: The work is usually performed in an office environment.
Qualifications

Time In Grade Requirement: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-06 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-07 level. One year at the GS-07 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-08 level. One year at the GS-08 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-09 level.

TYPING REQUIREMENT: To qualify for this position, you must have a typing speed of at least 40 words per minute. You must self-certify your typing speed.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: To be considered minimally qualified for this position, you must demonstrate that you have the required specialized experience and/or education for the respective grade level(s) in which you are applying:
Specialized Experience at the GS-07: One or more full-time years (12-months) of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-06 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties:
Using software to create various documents, reports and correspondences;
Screening all calls and routing important matters to managers; and
Assisting with procuring supplies, equipment, and services for an organization.

Specialized Experience at the GS-08: One or more full-time years (12-months) of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-07 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties:
Maintaining calendars for leadership, making travel arrangements, and preparing travel documents;
Using software to create various documents, reports and correspondences;
Documenting and disseminating meeting notes to ensure action items are accomplished; and
Screening all calls and routing important matters to managers.

Specialized Experience at the GS-09: One or more full-time years (12-months) of specialized work experience, equivalent to at least the GS-08 grade level in the Federal service, performing the following duties:
Maintaining calendars for leadership, making travel arrangements, and preparing travel documents;
Utilizing computer software to draft reports, correspondence, and develop presentations;
Screening calls and visitors, identifying urgent matters and concerns requiring immediate attention, to leadership;
Disseminating changes in local, Regional, and National Headquarters policies, goals, and objectives to keep leadership and staff informed; and
Coordinating logistics, equipment, and/or suppling needs for various meetings or conferences.
