This vacancy is for a Senior Policy Advisor (Direct Hire) in the Bureau of Industry and Security (BIS) within the Department of Commerce.
Duties
As a Senior Policy Advisor (Direct Hire), you will perform the following duties:
Oversees the development, coordination, implementation and management of regulations, policies, and rules to implement the bureau's mission.
Represents the bureau and the Department, as required, at meetings with interagency partners and the National Security Council and hosts interagency events.
Assesses the political and institutional environment and identifies, develops, and evaluates methods of implementing policy proposals.
Plans and manages industry and security program segments including, regulatory oversight and strategic planning

Qualifications

Applicants must possess one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and responsibility to the next lower grade level in the Federal Service. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies/knowledge, skills and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. This experience need not have been in the federal government.
To qualify for the GS-15
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: You must possess one full year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-14 grade level in the Federal service or its equivalent. Specialized experience is defined as:
Experience developing or coordinating Program Policy.
Experience representing an organization to internal and external stakeholders, on matters related to Industry & Security, i.e., foreign export control practices or policies
Experience evaluating, negotiating and communicating recommendations on business and industry issues and policies.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations e.g., professional; philanthropic, religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies; knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
