About the Position: Serves as Deputy to the Chief of The Safety and Occupational Health Office and serve as the first line supervisor to several, at least 8, Safety and Occupational Health Specialists and other clinical/ support staff. Incumbent will be assuming roles as DDC for diving operations for Mobile District.
Duties
Participate in pre-work, preparatory and accident prevention meetings with contractor and government workers.
Attend District staff meetings providing presentations and briefs to command representatives on information related to the District SOH program.
Exercise significant responsibility for dealing with officials in other units or organizations and/or provides advice to management officials of higher rank.
Supervise employees engaged in the accomplishment of assigned functions.
Serve as a technical lead and supervisor to guide and mentor other safety professionals within the office.
Plan, assigns, and evaluates the work of subordinates and coordinates the overall integrated work actions.
Resolve the more difficult problems and provides instructions and guidance concerning new or revised regulations and policies.
Assist in the planning, developing and directing the overall District safety and occupational health program.
Serve as a technical advisor on safety and occupational health issues to include developing and recommending safety and occupational health policy, standards, and procedures to control hazards.
Review contractor and government submittals for inclusion of required safety features and develop and review site safety and health plans for various projects.
Apply safety and occupational health laws, regulations, principles, practices, and procedures to advise on or resolve technical matters regarding occupational safety and health requirements.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position may require TDY 35% of the time.
- Diving certification is required within 1 year of employment. Need to have experience as a dive inspector. Incumbent will be assuming roles as DDC for diving operations for Mobile District.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1.) Implementing of safety and health requirements on a construction or renovation site 2.) Oversight of accident investigations and conducting Risk Analysis.3) Experience working on civil works and construction projects as a safety and occupational health technical expert. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS11).
