As the Manufacturing Subject Matter Expert in the advanced Fabrication discipline at Glenn Research Center. You will provide manufacturing support to research and flight hardware for the aeronautics, space flight and other mission-oriented programs at GRC. You will be the technical expert for advanced fabrication across the lab. You will perform and direct complex and critical fabrication of research and flight hardware for the aeronautics, space flight and other mission-oriented programs.
Duties
Serves as the subject matter expert to perform design of experimental research instruments, configurations, devices, or components in support of both space flight, research and development projects; some with undefined performance requirements.
Reviews plans, specifications, and cost estimates for technical adequacy.
Reports progress and/or problems, directs necessary changes, resolves controversial problems, ensures conformance to plans and specifications, and furnishes other assistance as required where deficiencies are noted.
Guides and evaluates contractor efforts and assesses technical progress in relation to the established schedule and resources allotted. Serves as the point of contact for resolution on complex manufacturing problems identified by the contractor.
Provides technical expertise in problem investigations and issues resolution activities involving a wide range of materials, structures, and associated test support equipment.
Investigations involve program, project, and processing issues and concerns, such as performance and quality problems and conduct engineering type of analysis.
Leads the team in identifying, distributing, and balancing workload among employees; arranging for team member training; monitors and reports on the status of progress of work. Serves as coach and facilitator in coordinating team initiatives.
Reports to the supervisor on individual and teamwork accomplishments, problems, and work processes. Applies a wide range of qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze and improve team effectiveness.

Qualifications
Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular ability, skill, and knowledge to successfully perform the duties of this position and is typically in or related to this line of work.
GS-13: To qualify at the GS-13 level, you must have one year of directly related specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 level:
Applying agency policies and fabrication practices to design, coordinate, and/or adapt equipment and techniques to solve complex manufacturing problems and make informed decisions;
Utilizing research and flight hardware designs and testing while utilizing advanced fabrication technologies with diverse materials such as metals, plastics, ceramics, glass, adhesives, and metal joining materials;
Operating fabrication and machining equipment to advance the manufacturability of aerospace prototype hardware.
