Duties

Maintain contact with victims during crisis intervention to assist with de- escalation, stabilization and securing a safe living environment. Advise all on and off-post agencies who seek guidance on making a report of suspected child maltreatment or domestic violence on the procedure for contacting the Report Point of Contact (RPOC). Provide advocacy services to victims and survivors of domestic violence and abuse and families (protective parents) in child abuse and neglect cases. Facilitate briefing on prevention of and intervention for domestic violence and child abuse and child neglect. Conduct professional level briefings and facilitates interactive training utilizing various service modalities. Ensure victims understand the processes involved and that information will be collected, reported, and maintained on cases. Utilize a trauma-informed approach with victims of abuse executing lethality assessments, safety planning, explanation of restricted reporting, and non-clinical counseling. Coordinate with local media outlets to publicize information of Family Advocacy Program seminars, workshops, and programs available to the community.

Requirements

• All Army Domestic Abuse Victim Advocates will obtain a Domestic Abuse Victim Abuse Victim Advocate credential at the basic or higher level,
• which demonstrates forty (40) hours of specialized training and a minimum of thirty-two (32) continuing education hours required every two years for renewal. This credential should be obtained withing twelve (12) months of hire.

Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field. In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: 1) Working with victims of domestic violence that demonstrates knowledge of the dynamics of domestic violence, community resources and services; 2) Ensuring overall local management of domestic violence program to include prevention, training, and victim advocacy; 3) Providing support service information to customers such as: spouse benefits, locating safe shelter, advocacy with commanders, coordination of obtaining protection from abuser and/or protection from stalking orders; AND 4) Recommending referrals to internal and external agencies. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the Federal service (GS-09). OR Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree in a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
