The primary purpose of this position is to install and repair a variety of domestic and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems such as walk-in and reach-in coolers, refrigerators, ice cream cabinets, deep freezers, evaporative coolers, attic and evaporative fans, and other comparable equipment.
Duties
Repairs and maintains a variety of domestic and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems used to condition areas and cool equipment.
Selects tools, decides on methods and techniques to use, and installs a variety of parts including major portions of assigned systems and equipment, applying and interpreting information in blueprints, charts, and sketches.
Recognizes the cause of faulty equipment.
Utilizes established safety practices, rules, regulations, and procedures to maintain a safe and clean work environment.

- Employee must maintain current certifications. Position requires CFC/NCFC Certification (universal) as required by 40 CFR Part 82, Subpart F., EPA is mandatory.

- This position has been designated as Key/Emergency Essential (E-E). In the event of a crisis, selectee must perform the Key/E-E duties until relieved. Position cannot be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization

Qualifications
In order to qualify, you must meet the quality level of experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards Handbook X-118C.
QUALIFICATIONS: Applicants will be rated in accordance with the OPM Qualification Standard Handbook X-118C for the WG-5300 Industrial Equipment Maintenance Family. Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most blue-collar positions, you must meet any screen-out element listed and show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on the quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

PHYSICAL EFFORT: The employee lifts, carries, and handles equipment up to 50 pounds. Works from ladders. Occasionally works from scaffolding platforms where equipment, parts, or tools are hard to reach. Work requires stooping, stretching, bending, kneeling, and working in tiring, uncomfortable positions.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work is perform indoors and outdoors. Subject to discomfort from face masks or other protective devices when there is a possibility of exposure to toxic refrigerants, noxious gases, fumes, or acids. Occasionally subject to possible burns, cuts, electrical shocks, and respiratory ailments. Exposed to repeated, prolonged, or concentrated amounts of refrigerants. Frequently subject to sudden temperature changes.
PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week.
