This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Department of the Defense Prevention Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: You will serve as a Prevention Deputy, responsible for maintaining day-to-day operations and oversight of integrated primary prevention efforts.
Duties
Ensures clear communication of population-based data trends with prevention partners consistent with ethical standards and human protections.
Assists the Prevention Lead to provide prevention guidance to Senior Command teams.
Discusses and applies a working understanding of health equity, social justice, and social determinants of health, and translates science to practice.
Coordinates with personnel across all prevention disciplines to ensure consistent messaging and unified efforts within the organization.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration.
- One year trial/probationary period may be required.
- You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Top Secret Security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- This position has a Temporary Duty (TDY) or business travel requirement of 25% of the time.
- This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
- Incumbents of this position must obtain and maintain Level 4 DoD Credentialing Program for Prevention Personnel (D-CPPP).
- Incumbents of this position must complete DoD SPARX Knowledge Parts 1 and 2 within 6 months of employment.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Basic Requirement for Prevention Specialist (PREVENTION DEPUTY) (PREV WF): (Transcripts are required if you meet the Basic Requirements based on education)
A. Degree: Bachelor's degree (or higher degree) in behavioral or social science, or related disciplines appropriate to the position, such as prevention science or public health.
OR
B. Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience that provided the applicant with knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
OR
C. Experience: Four years of appropriate experience that demonstrated that the applicant has acquired knowledge of one or more of the behavioral or social sciences equivalent to a major in the field.
In addition to meeting the basic requirement above, to qualify for this position you must also meet the qualification requirements listed below:
Specialized Experience: In order to qualify for this position your resume must describe one year of specialized experience equivalent to the NH-02 (GS-11 or equivalent) grade level in the Federal service which includes: 1) Identifying protective factors that can minimize the risk or prevent harmful behaviors; 2) Supporting senior prevention specialist with data-informed actions, prevention methodologies, assessment, and prevention training; 3) Building and sustaining productive collaborative relationships with other specialist involved in integrated primary prevention; AND 4) Conducting data analysis of evaluation metrics for prevention activities.
The definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service NH-02 or GS-11 equivalent.
Education
FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
