The Program Support Assistant is located in Aurora, CO within Patient Care Services (PCS) at the Eastern Colorado Health Care System (ECHCS) Denver VA Medical Center (VAMC) in the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA). Supports PCS and Nursing Staff Office in all administrative functions; adjusts duties to facilitate changing needs within PCS; reports directly to the Health System Specialist. ECHCS is a Joint Commission accredited, complexity level 1A facility serving Veterans.

Duties

Major duties include, but are not limited to: Assists with special projects. Uses agency data systems, the internet, and other sources of data to assist in providing reliable and up to date information to support Patient Care Services in the development of decision-tools and recommendations. Assists in managing files for all agency personnel that adhere to Joint Commission and VA regulations. Identifies opportunities to improve creative and innovative business practice development. Assists administratively with committees and other meetings. Displays proficiency in multiple computer systems. Assists in the clerical and administrative duties associated with planning and evaluating administrative programs, leading committees, and workgroup at the health care facility and Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) levels. Completes data entry. Assists with administrative tasks related to budget development and execution. Covers for vacant positions or individuals on leave, based on needs of the service. Assists with timekeeping, badge issuance, work orders, and purchase card ordering. Identifies opportunities to improve customer service and revenue. Assists in the development, management, and maintenance of internal review systems to ensure both clinical and administrative activities comply with agency and accrediting requirements. Assists in on-boarding of agency personnel, ranging from performing badging, requesting and processing physical and computer access, gathering demographic information, and acting as the liaison between varying departments within health care system, as well as between the unit and contractor. Responsible for administrative assignments and duties that vary based on the needs of the service. Assists with administrative tasks related to the development and implementation of outcome measures of clinical effectiveness. Maintains files for designated timeframes. Reports directly to the Health System Specialist in Patient Care Services (PCS). Assists with collection and maintenance of data needed for varying programs and tasks relevant to Patient Care Services. Performs other duties as assigned. Work Schedule: 7:30 am to 4:00 pm Monday thru Friday and work hours may vary and may include weekend, evening, night, holiday, or overtime hours depending on needs of service. No special physical demands are required to perform the work.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement. GS-06 grade level: One year of specialized experience (equivalent to the GS-05 grade level in the federal service); experience that equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills and abilities (KSA's) and other characteristics to perform successfully the duties of the position, and that is typically in or related to the work of the position to be filled, in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Specialized experience includes: Performing data entry and maintaining data; Assisting with developing and maintaining internal review systems; Assisting with making sure that clinical and administrative activities comply with agency and accrediting requirements; Supporting customer service improvement; Contributing to the on-boarding process of agency personnel (badging, requesting physical and computer access); Communicating clear information to organizational individuals and groups; Utilizing agency computer data systems in providing updated information. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must indicate clearly the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religions; spiritual; community; student; social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

There is no educational substitution for the GS-06 level.
