Duties

This position is located in the Academy Division of the National Institute of Corrections (NIC). Provides administrative and technical support to Correctional Program Specialists by implementing office procedures and policies to effectively coordinate and monitor the administrative functions and processes of the Institute. These duties include: managing correspondence; administering the Time and Attendance program; and coordinating training. Assists in the development of new office procedures to enhance the efficiency of workflow within the Academy Division.

Qualifications

To be considered for the position, you must meet the following qualification requirements. Education: As a general rule, education is not creditable above GS-5 for most positions covered by this standard; however, graduate education may be credited in those few instances where the graduate education is directly related to the work of the position. OR Experience: You must have at least one year of specialized experience equivalent in difficulty and complexity to the next lower grade level in federal service. To be creditable, this experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular qualifications to perform successfully the duties of the position, and must typically be in or related to the position to be filled. Some examples of this qualifying experience are: Experience managing the administrative operations of the office, including enhancing the workflow and office process/operations. Experience working with a wide range of administrative procedures and regulations to process requests and actions, forms, reports, and records. Experience recommending changes to administrative policies, devising and installing office procedures and practices to be used by administrative staff in subordinate offices. Experience in receiving, screening and routing incoming mail and telephone calls, ascertaining the nature of the request and directing inquiries to appropriate staff. Experience reviewing outgoing/incoming correspondence for proper grammar, spelling, punctuation and format. Experience utilizing various computer programs to complete complex, technical, or detailed assignments. If applicable, credit will be given for paid and unpaid experience. To receive proper credit, you must show the actual time (such as number of hours worked per week) spent in the activities. **Your eligibility for consideration will be based on your responses to the questions in the application.**
