Duties
This position is located at Grand Teton National Park within the Division of Facility Management. The Maintenance Mechanic Leader will be the lead for the Buildings and Quarters crew working on housing remodels and maintenance of various NPS building. The primary duties will include leading the work group, ensuring employees have material to complete their jobs, ensuring work is completed efficiently and on time, and report work status to the supervisor. Duties will include carpentry repairs to buildings and quarters including installing and repair of windows and doors, installing drywall, installing cabinets, framing and finish carpentry. Plumbing tasks such as re-plumbing housing units, replacing hose bibs, valves, fixtures, toilets, flush valves, and winterization of seasonal housing. Painting and stain to gypsum board or wood surfaces, paining structures and trim. The selected employee will work with higher graded employees in electrical and HVAC work, and shovel snow from the roofs of houses and buildings during winter.
Physical Demands: Physical effort is heavy to moderate, and requires occasional lifting or handling of objects or materials up to 50 pounds, unassisted, following proper lifting procedures to avoid injury. Frequently required to stand while working, climb ladders or scaffolding, and bend, stoop, climb, and work in awkward positions.
Work Environment: Exposed to a variety of seasonal weather conditions while working outdoors (temperatures -40 to 90+ degrees). Subject to danger of falling from ladders or scaffolding. Exposed to dust, dirt, wind, and rain. May work with dangerous chemicals and around moving equipment; paints, solvents, etc. May be exposed to electrical shocks, and biting insects.
Area Information: Grand Teton National Park and the John D. Rockefeller, Jr. Memorial Parkway in northwestern Wyoming preserve a spectacular landscape. The park encompasses the Teton Range and broad valley of Jackson Hole. Majestic peaks, wild canyons, piedmont lakes, forests, sagebrush meadows and the Snake River combine into one of the most scenic settings anywhere in North America. With 333,000 combined acres, the parks are at the heart of the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem, one of the most biologically diverse regions of the world. Additionally, the park includes a wide array of cultural resources, including 318 historic structures, two national historic landmarks and over 300 archeological sites. Grand Teton is one of the most visited national parks in the country.
This position is located in Moose, WY. Services are available in the neighboring town of Jackson, a small, recreation focused community of 10,000 year-round residents. The town caters to four million tourists every summer, has an excellent hospital, well-respected school system, grocery stores, restaurants, and seasonal festivals. Outdoor activities abound including hiking, camping, backpacking, horseback riding, boating, biking, fishing, skiing, and mountaineering. Summer temperatures range between 65 - 80 degrees. Winter temperatures range from 30 degrees to below zero with heavy snow.

Qualifications

The experience demonstrates your potential ability to lead by meeting all of the following 4 factors: 1.) Ability to communicate 2.) Integrity 3.) Willingness to accept policy 4.) and knowledge of Maintenance work in at least two of the following trades (Carpentry, Plumbing, Painting, Masonry, Wastewater Treatment, Water Treatment Plant Operations, Roofing or Electrical).
