About the Position: This position is located at Arlington National Cemetery. Incumbent accomplishes a full range of building and maintenance trades, taking into account any specialty consideration for historic buildings.
Duties
Consult drawings, manuals, treatment reports or other references to determine proper maintenance methods.
Select materials such as lumber, paneling, wood, electrical and plumbing supplies and develops bills of material.
Install, repair or replace plumbing fixtures of any type, and any size water, sewer, storm lines up to 6-inch in diameter.
Paint, plaster and perform a variety of repairs, including on historic masonry, stone or other materials.
Prepare coating materials by tinting, toning, matching, blending, and mixing in various additives.
Pour and finish concrete of various type and condition from survey markers to sidewalks and foundations for temporary holding areas.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must possess, maintain and be able to retain a current valid state or DC driver's license.
- Incumbent must be able to obtain, maintain and retain a valid government vehicle operator’s license. May be required to transport others in and around the cemetery.
- In accordance with Change 3 to AR 600-85, Alcohol and Drug Abuse Prevention and Control Program, employee must successfully pass a urinalysis screening for illegal drug use prior to appointment and periodically thereafter.
- Must pass a pre-employment physical and annual physical.

Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) WG 7: Ability to do the work of a(n) MAINTENANCE MECHANIC - utilizing basic knowledge of material strengths and applications; applying standard measurements, specifications, and instructions when constructing, installing, or repairing items such as frame structures, decking, partitions, shelving, doors, forms, siding, and scaffolds; following instructions on sketches, work orders, basic blueprints, instructions which are complete in terms of type of job required and materials and methods to be used. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) WG 8: Ability to do the work of a(n) MAINTENANCE MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. making repairs by removing, replacing, tightening, splicing, soldering, and insulating defective wiring, controls, and equipment; locating broken, worn, damaged, or poorly operating wiring, fixtures, controls, and equipment through visual check or through use of a small variety of test equipment; following instructions outlined in sketches, work orders,and basic blueprints. Failure to meet this Screen out Element will result in an ineligible rating.
Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element) WG-09: Ability to do the work of an MAINTENANCE MECHANIC without more than normal supervision. Applying carpentry skills and techniques in repairing and maintaining a variety of wooden structures and related facilities, repairing electrical fixtures, following instructions on drawings and blueprints. I work under normal supervision of a work leader or journey-level employee who observes the tasks in progress and upon completion to make sure they are properly performed. -Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating.

PHYSICAL EFFORTS Requires prolonged and frequent walking, standing, bending, stooping and pulling. Climbs ladders and lifts objects weighing over 50 pounds. Must use full range of upper and lower extremities. Moderate effort required in operation of vehicles and tools of the trade. Stamina, dexterity and perseverance required in all aspects of incumbent duties.
WORKING CONDITIONS Work is inside and outdoors. Incumbent is subject to discomfort from working in unnatural positions for long periods in all types of weather elements. Must work under stress and strain in dust, dirt, mud, water and be exposed to foul odors and equipment noises. Incumbent is exposed to occupational injuries such as: cuts, scrapes, burises, shock, and dust from sawing materials as well as other potential hazards of working with machinery, saws, and electrical and/or test equipment while performing duties of this position.
