You will serve as a Shipwright Worker in the located in the Service Shop (Code 990), Production Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900), at Norfolk Naval Shipyard, of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will build supporting cradles for drydocking vessels.
You will make necessary directed adjustments to bilge and keel blocks by driving packing and wedges and builds any required supplementary shoring
You will build various supporting structures for ship while it is under construction.
You will construct sled targets from blueprints, makes necessary repairs and dismantles and scraps as required.
You will install, repair, and calk wooden decks on ships.
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- Incumbent must obtain and/or have a license and be able to operate a crane, truck, tractor or vehicle
- Incumbent must maintain the qualifications of your trade.
- Incumbent must be able to work from ladders and platforms; work in awkward and uncomfortable positions; and enter accesses 18 inches in diameter.
- Incumbent lifts and carries weights up to 45 pounds.
- The use of fingers, both hands, pushing, pulling, reaching above shoulders, stooping, twisting, and both legs to walk, climb, stand, crawling, crouching, kneeling, bending, and working in awkward positions.
- Incumbent must be able to work inside and outside in excessive heat, cold, humidity, dampness or chilling weather conditions, working in areas with excessive and or constant intermittent noise, and working in confined spaces.
- You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal.
- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- Incumbent must be able to work inside and outside in excessive heat, cold, humidity, dampness or chilling weather conditions, working in areas with excessive and or constant intermittent noise, and working in confined spaces.
- Must meet medical surveillance programs.
- You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
Qualifications

Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Ability to demonstrate knowledge of principles of the trade in order to interpret and work from blueprints, sketches, manufacturers/military specifications and lay out work.
Ability to demonstrate knowledge of methods, techniques, procedures, tools, materials, and practices of the shipwright trade.
Ability to utilize shop arithmetic and geometry to make accurate layouts of material.
Ability to utilize written procedures, work methods and approved work sequences to review completed shipwright work.
