You will serve as a SHIPWRIGHT LEADER in the Service Shop (Code 990), Production Resources Department Manager (Code 901), Production Resources Department (Code 900) of NORFOLK NAVAL SHIPYARD.
Duties
You will ensure safe work practices and good housekeeping.
You will build and lay our keel and bilge blocks.
You will establish reference points and align ships over cradle during docking and undocking procedures.
You will cut and build blocks and other parts for supporting cradles.
You will install and repair wood bulkheads, doors, sash, paneling, ladders, super-structure decks and gratings, wooden decks, panels of wood substitutes
Requirements
- Must be a US Citizen.
- Must be determined suitable for federal employment.

- You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.
- Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
- This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
Qualifications

Experience performing theoretical, precise, and/or artistic work applied to skilled and semi-skilled occupations.
Experience fabricating tools/fixtures/gages with critical dimensions.
Experience utilizing arithmetic/trade math for computations; constructing new, one-of-a-kind items.
Experience utilizing written procedures, work methods, and approved work sequences to review completed shipwright work.
Experience inventing new methods; resolving shipwright working problems and take necessary corrective actions to overcome delays (e.g., personnel, bottlenecks, equipment breakdowns, material shortages).
Experience interpreting blueprints, sketches, docking worksheets, and job orders to perform the duties of the shipwright trade.
Experience utilizing knowledge of trade theory and up-to-date trade practices.
Experience planning/laying out/setting up operations.
Experience training shipwright personnel on work methods and procedures.
Experience leading work steps for shipwright employees.
Experience utilizing written procedures, work methods, and approved work sequences to review completed shipwright work.
