About the Position: Serves as an Electronics Technician responsible for maintaining complex electronic equipment used for Air Traffic Control (ATC) at Gray Army Airfield, Joint Base Lewis Mcchord (JBLM), WA and Yakima Training Center (YTC).

Duties

Investigate, analyze, test, diagnose, correct and tune complex systems to restore or ensure their continuous and reliable operation. Recommend modifications for adoptions where such might eliminate recurrent malfunctions or failures and improve systems performance. Provide on-the-job training to less experienced technicians. Maintain certification logs as required by federal Aviation Administration/Army and assures equipment/component inventory is replenished as needed. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on less complex equipment and subsystems, which the Federal Aviation Administration has recognized as meeting Category I complexity.

Requirements

  • Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
  • This is an Inclement Weather Essential position, you must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal Aviation Administration or Military Air Traffic Control Electronic Maintenance Certification
  • This position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrated experience: Investigating, analyzing, testing, correcting and tuning complex systems to restore or ensure their continuous and reliable operation. These systems include Instrument Landing System (ILS): Distance Measuring Equipment (DME): Remote Transmitter and Receiver Units (RTR): Interim Voice Switch Replacement (IVSR): Standard Terminal Automation Replacement System (STARS); RF Communications and Surveillance coverage for 2 Airspace Information Centers (AIC), defined by the FAA as Category II level of complexity; Performing system modifications as prescribed by the FAA, U. S. Army, and the Air Force; Performing preventive and corrective maintenance on less complex equipment and subsystems, which the FAA has recognized as meeting Category I complexity. Time in Grade Requirement: Applicants who have held a General Schedule (GS) position within the last 52 weeks must have 52 weeks of Federal service at the next lower grade or equivalent (GS-11).
