About the Position: This position will assist in maintaining and certifying navigational aids and radar that are distributed across 23 operational sites between JBLM and YTC.
This position may be filled as a term appointment NTE 2 Years. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of six years. With DoD approval, term appointments may be extended beyond 6 six years, but not more than 8 years.
Duties
Investigate, analyze, test, diagnose, correct and tune complex systems to restore or ensure their continuous and reliable operation.
Maintain certification logs as required by FAA/Army and assures equipment/component inventory is replenished as needed.
Recommend modifications for adoptions where such might eliminate recurrent malfunctions or failures and improve systems performance.
Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on less complex equipment and subsystems, which the FAA has recognized as meeting Category I complexity.
Provide on-the-job training to less experienced technicians.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position requires the incumbent be able to obtain and maintain a determination of eligibility for a Secret security clearance or access for the duration of employment.
- The duties of this position meet the criteria for compliance with Federal and Department of the Army Drug Free Workplace Programs. Detection of the presence of drugs is warranted.
- In the event of severe weather conditions or other such emergency type situations (natural or man-made disaster) the incumbent is required to report to work or remain at work as scheduled to support mission operations
- This position requires an FAA or Military Air Traffic Control Electronic Maintenance Certification.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes using or designing schematic diagrams; or, performing preventative maintenance on electronic equipment/subsystems; or applying electronic formulas involved in testing, troubleshooting, modifying, designing, calibrating, installing, maintaining, repairing, constructing, or developing electronic equipment such systems include; Airport Surveillance Radar; Air Traffic Control Beacon Interrogator; Non-Programmable Indicator Data Processor; Precision Approach Radar; Digital Bright Radar Indicator Tower Equipment; Instrument Landing System; Remote Transmitter and Receiver Units; Enhanced Terminal Voice Switch System; T-Span Data Transmission System; Weather Graphics System.. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS11 or above]).
