This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service. About the Position: Serves as an Electronics Technician responsible for maintaining complex electronic equipment used for Air Traffic Control (ATC) at Gray Army Airfield, Joint Base Lewis Mcchord (JBLM), WA.

Duties

Investigate, analyze, test, diagnose, correct and tune complex systems to restore or ensure their continuous and reliable operation. Recommend modifications for adoptions where such might eliminate recurrent malfunctions or failures and improve systems performance. Provide on-the-job training to less experienced technicians. Maintain certification logs as required by federal Aviation Administration/Army and assures equipment/component inventory is replenished as needed. Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on less complex equipment and subsystems, which the Federal Aviation Administration has recognized as meeting Category I complexity.

Requirements

• Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
• This position is a Testing Designated Position (TDP) subject to applicant testing and random drug testing. Tentatively selected applicants will be required to sign DA Form 5019 requiring participation in random drug urinalysis testing.
• This is an Inclement Weather Essential position, you must make every attempt to report for work on time and/or remain on duty during severe weather conditions.
• This position may require travel up to 5% of the time.
• Obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
• Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain a Federal Aviation Administration or Military Air Traffic Control Electronic Maintenance Certification
• This position has been designated as "Key" and shall not be vacated during a national emergency or mobilization as doing so would seriously impair the capability of the organization to function effectively.
• The incumbent must be exempted from recall to active duty and will receive training to ensure mission accomplishment of sustaining base operations during mobilization.
• This position may be subject to on call rotations on weekends/and or / holidays.
• This is a term Not to Exceed (NTE) 2 years position
• It is time-limited and may be extended beyond six years up to a maximum of eight years. This position may be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met.

Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes demonstrated experience 1;)Using or designing schematic diagrams to perform preventative maintenance on electronic equipment/subsystems, and 2;) Applying electronic formulas involved to test troubleshoot, modify, calibrate, install, maintain, repair, or construct, electronic equipment systems such as; Airport Surveillance Radar; Air Traffic Control Beacon Interrogator; Non-Programmable Indicator Data Processor; Precision Approach Radar; Digital Bright Radar Indicator Tower Equipment; Instrument Landing System; Remote Transmitter and Receiver Units; Enhanced Terminal Voice Switch System; T-Span Data Transmission System; Weather Graphics System. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-11)
