Position serves as the Supervisory Nurse for the Outpatient Department for the Whiteriver Service Unit located in Whiteriver, AZ. Assists in the direction of nursing employees in the performance of nursing tasks related to the care of a diverse population of ambulatory patients. Supervisor performs such functions as planting, organizing, directing, and reviewing work and administering personnel matters specific to the Outpatient Department.
Duties
Supervisory Functions: Serves as Assistant Supervisory Clinical Nurse with responsibilities of assuring that nursing care is provided, and for the accomplishment of work planning, direction, and performance evaluation. Assist in supervising permanent and temporary professional and ancillary nursing employees.
Work Planning: Plans and adjusts work assignments and operations to meet organizational objectives, priorities, deadlines, and standard of care. Assures nursing capabilities, staffing, and equipment requirements to meet the work demands, safety requirement, and accreditation standards.
Regularly reviews and updates policy and procedures manuals including Nursing Policies and Procedures, Infection Control, Safety Data Sheets (SDS), and Nursing Standards of Care.
Incumbent ensures department compliance with regulatory requirements of The Joint Commission (TJC), Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) and other applicable regulatory bodies.
Maintains clinical competencies. Provides skilled and comprehensive nursing care to ambulatory patients. Exercises sound judgement in interpreting observations to the provider and initiating emergency measures.

Qualifications

BASIC REQUIREMENT(S):
Note: Employees currently assigned to positions in this occupational series as of September 2017 will be considered to have met the basic requirements for the position occupied.
Education: A graduate or higher level degree, bachelor's degree, associate degree, or diploma from an accredited professional nursing educational program is required. This education must have been accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education, Council on Accreditation of Nurse Anesthesia Educational Programs, Accreditation Commission for Midwifery Education, or an accrediting body recognized by the U.S. Department of Education at the time the degree was obtained.
Licensure: For all grade levels and positions, applicants must have passed the National Council Licensure Examination. In addition, they must possess a current, active, full, and unrestricted license or registration as a professional nurse from a State, the District of Columbia, the Commonwealth of Puerto Rico, or a territory of the United States.
Experience: The work experience must have equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. At the GS-09 and above grade level, many positions may require experience in a specialty area of nursing.
In addition to the Basic Requirements, you must also meet the Minimum Qualifications stated below.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS, GS-11:Your resume must demonstrate at least one (1) year of professional nursing experience (equivalent to the GS-9 grade level) AND possession of a diploma, associate degree, or bachelor's degree in Nursing from a professional nursing program. Examples Include: Provide supervision, leadership, and direction of subordinate staff on the Outpatient Department; maintain the continuity and effectiveness of nursing services, to insure delivery of quality patient care, and to serve as a role model for professional nursing; responsibilities assuring that nursing care is provided and for accomplishment of work planning, direction and performance evaluation and/or direct supervision of temporary and permanent professional nursing employees. Perform nursing care duties as needed and providing ambulatory nursing care services to individual eligible for services.
OR
Successfully completed a PhD or equivalent doctoral degree from a professional nursing educational program or related medical science field.
