Duties

You will repair and maintain a variety of domestic and commercial refrigeration and air conditioning units and systems used to condition areas and cool equipment. You will replace major portions of various cooling units such as compressors, condensers, expansion valves, float and service valves, thermostats, coils, and drive assemblies. You will service power sources by tightening connections, making splices, and insulating exposed wires. You will replace defective items and individual parts on large commercial and industrial systems when extensive major repairs are not required. You will perform general repairs and preventative maintenance in a timely manner. You will interpret blueprints, drawings, and specifications. You will trace and locate defects, determines nature and extent of repairs required, select appropriate tools, testing devices, and work sequence. You will test unit upon completion of repair to ensure that equipment and systems operate as intended. You will test small units and systems using compound refrigeration gauges and ammeters to locate worn and broken parts. You will inspect and observe equipment for proper operation, oil levels, cycling, overheated bearings, and unusual noises.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen.
  • Must be determined suitable for federal employment.
  • Must participate in the direct deposit pay program.

  • Within the Department of Defense (DoD), the appointment of retired military members within 180 days immediately following retirement date to a civilian position is subject to the provisions of 5 United States Code 3326.

  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license.
  • You will be required to be certified in the use of a respirator within 6 months of appointment.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain EPA Universal Certifications prior to appointment.
  • This is a bargaining unit position.
  • Work is performed in areas where potentially harmful physical and chemical agents are present (e.g. fumes, dust, heat, ionizing and non-ionizing radiation and chemicals). You will be required to participate in medical surveillance programs.
