About the Position: This position is located at the Military Police School at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri. Fort Leonard Wood is located in the beautiful South-Central Missouri Ozarks. The Fort covers more than 61,000 acres and is located in Pulaski County, bordering Waynesville/St. Robert and Interstate 44. St. Louis is a 2-hour drive east and Springfield is a 1-hour drive west of Fort Leonard Wood.
Duties
Serve as a subject matter expert, instructor/writer, firearms instructor for planning and implementing protective services operations to maintain the military police protective service training course.
Analyze training requirements and develop training plans in concert with priorities outlined in guidance and recommend courses of action which maximizes training impact within resource constraints.
Utilize special police operational expertise to present instruction in protective service personnel, nonstandard weapon techniques and specialized skills required of protective service detail members.
Travel to remote areas worldwide, possibly including combat and hostile fire zones, to conduct training.
Utilize law enforcement weapons expertise and skill to conduct weapons training in rifle, pistol, shotgun, submachine gun, nonstandard weapons, and non-lethal weapons/munitions employment.
Perform maintenance and accountability of training aids, equipment and facilities to include, but not limited to, tactical clearing complexes, ranges, communication systems, lighting systems and weapon systems necessary to conduct training.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- This position is covered by the 1996 Lautenberg amendment to the Gun Control Act of 1968. Persons convicted of a misdemeanor crime of domestic violence are not eligible for the position.
- This position requires the employee to receipt, transport, operate, account for/secure, and maintain various weapon systems used within training.
- This position is covered by the Civilian Drug Abuse Testing Program.
- Incumbent is required to sign a DA Form 5019-R, "Condition of employment for certain civilian positions identified as critical under the Drug Abuse Testing Program," or a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU).
- The employee may be required to work overtime to include weekends and federal holidays, out of cycle, or unscheduled training and on an emergency basis.
- The employee may be recalled to duty from scheduled time off.
- This position requires employee to work under adverse environmental conditions.
- This position requires the employee drive a motor vehicle (tactical and non-tactical). An appropriate, valid driver's license (state and military) is required for the position.
- Position requires the employee to graduate the Protective Service Training Course, Antiterrorism Evasive Drivers Course, Range Control Certification, Foundation Instructor Course and additional duty certification within 3 months of employment.
- Successful completion passing physical fitness, tactics and procedures, practical exercises to include day and night courses, obstacle course, weapon qualifications and written examinations IAW course plans within 3 mo. of employment.
- This position requires the employee to be certified as a Protective Services Instructor in accordance with USAMPS and Advanced Law Enforcement Training Division Instructor Certification programs within the first 3 months of employment.
- Incumbent will have to pass a pre-employment physical to meet Physical Efforts requirements IAW the Special Demands Requirements; for example, must be able to lift up to 80 pounds, have the ability to discern colors, contrast, and depth, etc.
- Temporary Duty Travel (TDY) is required approximately 25% of the time in execution of the mission. The employee must be willing and able to travel on military and commercial aircraft.
- Obtain and maintain a Secret security clearance.

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: serving as an instructor/writer planning and implementing protective service operations to maintain military police protective service training courses; conducting weapons training in rifle, pistol, shotgun, submachine gun, nonstandard weapons and non-lethal weapons/munitions; AND identifying problem areas, providing guidance and making appropriate recommendations to ensure ongoing training progress. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.M. with a major study in education or a subject area related to the position to be filled.

Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
