The Pharmacy Supervisor (Outpatient), located in Pharmacy Service is fully responsible for the daily professional and administrative operation of outpatient pharmacy programs in the VA Chicago Health Care System's highly diverse teaching and research medicine hospital. The Pharmacy Supervisor (Outpatient) establishes controls and evaluates the effectiveness of personnel, equipment, ongoing pharmacy programs, and shares in the development of new programs.

Basic Requirements: United States Citizenship: Non-citizens may only be appointed when it is not possible to recruit qualified citizens in accordance with VA Policy. English Language Proficiency: Pharmacists must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402(d), and 7407(d). Education: Graduate of an Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE) accredited College or School of Pharmacy with a baccalaureate degree in pharmacy (BS Pharmacy) and/or a Doctor of Pharmacy (Pharm.D.) degree. OR, Graduate of a foreign pharmacy degree program if you are able to provide proof of achieving the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Examination Commission (FPGEC) Certification, which includes passing the Foreign Pharmacy Graduate Equivalency Examination (FPGEE) and the Test of English as a Foreign Language Internet-Based Test (TOEFL iBT). Licensure: Full, current and unrestricted license to practice pharmacy in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (i.e., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia. May qualify based on being covered by the Grandfathering Provision as described in the VA Qualification Standard for this occupation (only applicable to current VHA employees who are in this occupation and meet the criteria). Grade Determinations: Specialized Experience, GS-13: Do you possess at least one (1) year of experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-12) or equivalent, which is directly related to the Pharmacy Supervisor (Outpatient) position? The Pharmacy Supervisor (Outpatient) functions include, but are not limited to: Responsible for the professional, administrative management and supervision of outpatient pharmacists, technicians, and other supportive personnel, in providing a safe, timely, efficient, and cost-effective medication dispensing system; Identifies and plans for continuing education· and staff development needs of the outpatient pharmacy staff; Responsible for the implementation, revision, and interpretation of Outpatient Pharmacy Service policies and procedures in compliance with JCAHO standards as they relate to the Outpatient Section of Pharmacy Service; Supervises and coordinates the daily work in and between the various areas of the Central Pharmacy and evaluates, and documents performance and counsels employees under his/her supervision etc. AND, Demonstrated Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (KSAs): In addition to the specialized experience described above, you must be able to demonstrate all the following KSAs: 1. Ability to effectively supervise subordinate staff. 2. Ability to communicate orally and in writing to persuade and influence clinical and management decisions. 3. Expert understanding of regulatory and quality standards pertaining to pharmacy. 4. Skill in managing people or programs. Preferred Experience: PGY1 Pharmacy Residency/PGY2 Health Systems Pharmacy Administration and Leadership or Outpatient Pharmacy Managerial/Supervisory experience.
