About the Position: Position is assigned to the US Army Parachute Team which conducts worldwide parachute demonstrations, competitions, and a tandem orientation program in order to connect the U.S. Army with the American public and enhance the Army's recruiting efforts while simultaneously providing technical expertise in support of military free fall programs.
Duties
Conduct skydiving instruction briefings to provide critical information regarding parachute safety and free-fall jumps.
Serve as certified Master Parachute Rigger by conducting inspections of parachuting equipment within the US Army Parachuting Team.
Conduct training to ensure newly assigned parachute riggers obtain appropriate Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) rigger license.
Analyzes budgeting data to ensure proposed cost estimation plans adhere to outlined equipment budget objectives.
Conduct analysis of assigned program area to identify operational support requirements (i.e., funding, facilities, personnel, etc.)
Conduct the testing of parachuting equipment to enhance the operability of Parachute Team.
Use parachute systems that require the execution of numerous mechanical assembly and fabric packing procedures.
Collaborate with external agencies to ensure design of parachuting equipment is accommodating to jumper or solider assigned to equipment.
Responds to inquiries pertaining to technical issues within US Army Parachuting Team.
Requirements
- Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
- Incumbent must obtain and maintain a SECRET security clearance.
- Incumbent must posses Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Master Parachute Rigger certification
- Incumbent must be a United States Parachute Association Safety and Training Advisor
- Incumbent must be a graduate of the United States Army Quartermaster School Parachute Rigger Course Graduate
- Incumbent must a United States Parachute Association (USPA) Advanced Free Fall Instructor
- Incumbent must be a Army Special Warfare Center and School Military Free Fall Jumpmaster Graduate
- Incumbent must be a United States Army Infantry School Jumpmaster School Graduate and be Master Rated
- Position covered under the civilian drug abuse testing program. Incumbent is required to sign a DA form 5019-R and/or DA form 7412.
- Incumbent may be required to travel TDY for extended periods 25% of time
- Maybe required to work in a field environment while performing
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a civilian driver’s license in order to operate military vehicles(1/2 ton or less) if necessary, at event sites

In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes analyzing equipment to prepare technical reports; testing parachuting or aircraft equipment to detect deficiencies; recommending equipment modifications; utilizing established systems to make minor repairs to parachuting equipment (i.e., harnesses, canopies, containers).. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the second lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09).

Education: Ph.D or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree a field which demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of the position, such as: Mechanical Engineering, Materials Engineering, Equipment Operations, or Construction.
OR
Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide the total number of completed graduate semester hours (or equivalent) beyond the second year (total graduate semester hours minus 36) by 18. Add the two percentages.
