The position is located within the Operative Care Service at the Miami VAHS and is responsible for analyzing, managing, coordinating, controlling, acquiring, monitoring, and accounting for a variety of biological and non-biological implants and surgical devices or supplies.
Duties
Major duties include but aren't limited too:
Closely working with attending physicians, residents, Cath Lab staff, operating room nursing staff, vendors, and any other affected staff.
Maintain records of dispensing and reviews intraoperative documentation confirming utilization during procedure.
Monitor and comply with guidelines, regularly review and evaluate guidelines, provide recommendations for change and updates to processes to improve timeliness, reduce costs, improve quality assurance, The Joint Commission patient safety mandates, and meet new/updated policy Directives and Handbooks.
Recommend space, equipment, and supplies, necessary for the successful oversight of the of the surgical implant program.
Coordinate team practices and philosophies among attending physicians, residents, nursing staff, and management.
Provide education and training to attending physicians, residents, and nursing staff, on at least an annual basis, concerning Surgical Implant protocol, and submit attendance information to Surgery Service staff responsible for entering training data.
Access patient electronic medical records to verify documentation for implantation of implants that have been recalled and collaborate with clinic personnel for proper patient data entry into the system so that patients receiving an implant may be tracked effectively.

Qualifications
To qualify for this position, applicants must meet all requirements by the closing date of this announcement, 09/13/2024.
Time-In-Grade Requirement: Applicants who are current Federal employees and have held a GS grade any time in the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements by the closing date of this announcement. For a GS-09 position you must have served 52 weeks at the Gs-07. The grade may have been in any occupation, but must have been held in the Federal service. An SF-50 that shows your time-in-grade eligibility must be submitted with your application materials. If the most recent SF-50 has an effective date within the past year, it may not clearly demonstrate you possess one-year time-in-grade, as required by the announcement. In this instance, you must provide an additional SF-50 that clearly demonstrates one-year time-in-grade. Note: Time-In-Grade requirements also apply to former Federal employees applying for reinstatement as well as current employees applying for Veterans Employment Opportunities Act of 1998 (VEOA) appointment.
You may qualify based on your experience and/or education s described below:
Specialized Experience: You must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the next lower grade GS-07 in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization. Examples of specialized experience would typically include, but are not limited to: conduct research; obtain the best pricing for ordered items; ordering emergency items in a timely manner; ensure that items are used or returned to vendors prior to expiration; serve as a liaison for recalls, alerts and withdrawals of items; tracking items; review and evaluate guidelines; coordinate team practices; provide education and training on protocol.
Preferred experience: Experience with surgical implants inventory. OR,
Education: Applicants may substitute education for the required experience. To qualify based on education for this grade level you must have a master's or equivalent graduate degree or
2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or
LL.B. or J.D., if related . OR,
Combination: Applicants may also combine education and experience to qualify at this level. You must have an combination of specialized experience and education beyond a Bachelors Degree.

Physical Requirements: The work is administrative in nature and often sedentary. However, walking, carrying, stooping, bending and reaching are required to carry out inventorying, receiving, and stocking the areas assigned. The activities include physical inspection of merchandise received at the dock, movement of palletized cartons, operation of common material handling equipment (pallet jack, carts, etc.), unpacking of outer shipping containers, and stocking customer's shelves. The incumbent may lift and carry items the weigh up to 40 pounds. The heavier items are moved with weight handling equipment or with assistance from other workers.
