Duties

As a Accountant, at the full performance level, you will perform the following duties: Serves as an Accountant providing services that support department and organizational programs and components. Responsible for carrying out professional accounting responsibilities in accordance with guidelines established by the department. Provide support in a wide variety of accounting services regarding financial issues as well as questions and problems related to the organization. Performs a wide variety of activities that enable the agency to maintain efficient and effective business processes, to safeguard assets, to enhance transparency through accurate and timely financial reporting, and to ensure compliance with laws and regulations. Effectively communicating with colleagues and management in an effort to gather, analyze, and compile financial data to provide financial advisory services and to convey financial information in a variety of written forms such as Fund Balance With Treasury and Payroll Reporting.

  • Probationary Period: This is a full-time permanent position (Career/Career-Conditional appointment). Upon appointment to this position, you may be required to serve a one-year probationary period.

You qualify for the GS-12 grade level if you possess one of the following: Experience: One (1) year of specialized experience at the GS-11 grade level or equivalent performing duties such as: Reviewing and evaluating automated and/or manual accounting and financial management systems to find, review, or change accounting data in transactions files, ledgers, accountants, summary reports and financial statements. Interpreting financial and accounting data in order to provide appropriate analysis for management's use in decision-making. Recommends changes in funding and budget plans that if accepted may require management to revise substantive programs. OR Education: Degree: accounting; or a degree in a related field such as business administration, finance, or public administration that included or was supplemented by 24 semester hours in accounting. The 24 hours may include up to 6 hours of credit in business law. (The term "accounting" means "accounting and/or auditing" in this standard. Similarly, "accountant" should be interpreted, generally, as "accountant and/or auditor.") OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of successfully completed education and experience. This will be calculated using your resume and unofficial transcripts or a list of courses/course hours submitted with your application. At least 4 years of experience in accounting, or an equivalent combination of accounting experience, college-level education, and training that provided professional accounting knowledge. The applicant's background must also include one of the following: Twenty-four semester hours in accounting or auditing courses of appropriate type and quality. This can include up to 6 hours of business law; or A certificate as Certified Public Accountant or a Certified Internal Auditor, obtained through written examination; or Completion of the requirements for a degree that included substantial course work in accounting or auditing, e.g., 15 semester hours, but that does not fully satisfy the 24-semester-hour requirement of paragraph A, provided that (a) the applicant has successfully worked at the full-performance level in accounting, auditing, or a related field, e.g., valuation engineering or financial institution examining; (b) a panel of at least two higher level professional accountants or auditors has determined that the applicant has demonstrated a good knowledge of accounting and of related and underlying fields that equals in breadth, depth, currency, and level of advancement that which is normally associated with successful completion of the 4-year course of study described in paragraph A; and (c) except for literal nonconformance to the requirement of 24 semester hours in accounting, the applicant's education, training, and experience fully meet the specified requirements Qualification requirements must be met by the closing date of this announcement.
