Duties
Evaluates computer hardware and software systems utilizing innovative techniques to determine feasibility and develop standards.
Formulates overall system concepts and design of integrated network architectures using hardware, software, and advanced communications (i.e. fiber optics, wireless, satellite, and Ethernet type networks).
Provides technical direction, leadership, and vision to team members involved in a broad spectrum of system administration activities.
Provides advice on selection of equipment and processes to use; prototyping and testing of security and related systems; and making use of network and computer system hardware and software integration techniques.
Contributes to organizational policies regarding management and security of information systems and related supporting devices.
Requirements
- This position requires up to 5% overnight travel away from the duty station.

To qualify for an IT Specialist position you must have IT-related experience demonstrating each of the four competencies listed below based on the grade level required of the position being filled: 1 - Attention to Detail - Is thorough when performing work and conscientious about attending to detail. 2 - Customer Service - Works with clients and customers (that is, any individuals who use or receive the services or products that your work unit produces, including the general public, individuals who work in the agency, other agencies, or organizations outside the Government) to assess their needs, provide information or assistance, resolve their problems, or satisfy their expectations; knows about available products and services; is committed to providing quality products and services. 3 - Oral Communication - Expresses information (for example, ideas or facts) to individuals or groups effectively, taking into account the audience and nature of the information (for example, technical, sensitive, controversial); makes clear and convincing oral presentations; listens to others, attends to nonverbal cues, and responds appropriately. 4 - Problem Solving - Identifies problems; determines accuracy and relevance of information; uses sound judgment to generate and evaluate alternatives, and to make recommendations.
To qualify based on your experience, your resume MUST describe at least one year of Specialized Experience which prepared you to do this work in this job. Specialized experience is defined as:; (1) Administering, hardening, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise Windows 2019 Servers; (2) Designing, administering, hardening, maintaining, and troubleshooting enterprise patch management systems, virus protection systems (specifically MECM and McAfee ENS), and enterprise backup, archival, and restoration solutions; (3) Hardening enterprise production servers and workstations to Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs) and industry best practices; (4) Create, deploy, and maintain Virtual Servers through VMWare ESXi Server.
This definition of specialized experience is equivalent to the NH-02/GS-11 grade level in the Federal Service.
