DUTY LOCATION: Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG), Groton, CT
AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION:
Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the Connecticut Army National Guard.
Area 2: All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and all current traditional members of the Connecticut Army National Guard.
Duties
This position is located within TASMG Projects and may be extended or terminated at the discretion of the TASMG Commander.
JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to perform the full range of aircraft maintenance duties including troubleshooting, preventive maintenance, repair and ground testing of assemblies, systems and surfaces for one or more types of military aircraft, fixed and rotary wing.
NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard.
The major duties include, but are not limited to:
Performs inspections, functional checks and preventive maintenance to include phase inspections, daily inspections, pre and post flight inspections and such special inspections. as required, including fuel and contamination checks, oil sampling, and inspection of on board emergency equipment.
Troubleshoots, diagnoses and performs unscheduled maintenance on assigned and transient aircraft.
Conducts checks on hydraulic, electrical, transmission, power systems, etc.
Removes components and assemblies, repairs or replaces defective parts and components and reassembles repaired items into the aircraft.
Installs, aligns and makes needed adjustments to major components and assemblies such as engines, propeller/rotors, transmissions, hydraulic systems, etc., assisting specialists as required.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside, in inclement weather, on icy, wet and slippery ramps and work-stands in temperature and humidity extremes. Work areas may be drafty, noisy and have toxic fumes present. Irritants such as aircraft fluids, dirt, grease, dust, paint and solvents may be present. Exposure to cuts, burns, electrical shock, strains and broken bones exists.
PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing 50 pounds and over.

- Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.
- Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.

- Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
- Must possess a valid state drivers license.
Qualifications
GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment.
SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 6, 12 or 18 months of specialized experience in the following:
WG-05 REQUIRES 6 MONTHS:
Experience using common hand tools in making repetitive mechanical repairs under close supervision.
Experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the simpler and routine duties of the trade.
WG-08 REQUIRES 12 MONTHS:
Experience using common hand tools to make mechanical repairs.
Experience removing and installing aircraft parts, components and accessories with detailed guidance.
Experience in following detailed instructions in making routine, reoccurring repairs and modifications to aircraft parts, subassemblies and components, e.g. such as jacking and leveling aircraft, installing and adjusting engines, landing gear assemblies, instrument panels, and flight control systems.
WG-10 REQUIRES 18 MONTHS:
Experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification.
Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow.
Experience demonstrating the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
Ability to do diversified work with tools and equipment, requiring extreme caution in maintaining close dimensions.
Knowledge of aircraft components and maintenance procedures.
Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and determine remedy where overall knowledge of all systems of aircraft is required.
Ability to inspect aircraft, determine mechanical deficiencies and analyze results.
Ability to interpret instructional material, schematics and specifications for complex mechanical problems on assigned aircraft.
COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training.

UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any aviation unit within state
CONDITION OF EMPLOYMENT: Training at the National Guard Professional Education Center (NGPEC) is a mandatory condition of employment, subject to availability of resources. NGB prescribed courses at NGPEC must be completed within 6 months of assignment to this position. Failure to complete course(s) may result in reassignment or termination of full-time employment unless extenuating circumstances preclude course attendance.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
STATEMENT OF DIFFERENCE: Individual selected at a lower level will be issued a Statement of Difference. Predicated upon qualifications, individual could be hired at the WG-10 grade. An individual selected for this position at the lower grade will progressively be advanced to WG-10 upon achievement of required qualifications without further competition.
