THIS IS A TITLE 32 DUAL STATUS POSITION DUTY LOCATION: Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG), Groton, CT AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the Connecticut Army National Guard. Area 2: All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and all current traditional members of the Connecticut Army National Guard.

Duties

JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to act as the Aircraft Mechanic (Crew Chief) with responsibility for certifying airworthiness and managing the operational readiness of one or more aircraft, and proficiency training of supported aviation unit personnel. Responsibilities include detailed technical oversight of individual aircraft's level of mission capabilities and operational readiness IAW Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Code of Federal Regulation (CFR) title 14 Part 43 rules governing the maintenance, preventive maintenance, rebuilding and alteration of aircraft having a U.S. airworthiness certificate as well as guidelines and projection of maintenance requirements per the UH-72A Program Office to maintain individual aircraft operational readiness, ensuring aircraft meet airworthiness compliance as stipulated within the Army's UH-72A Continued Airworthiness Maintenance Plan (CAMP). NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: Manages, monitors or performs overall maintenance within the CAMP and FAA framework, servicing inspections and documentation for one or more highly technical, high performance UH-72A military aircraft. Requests maintenance services exceeding AASF capabilities or time constraints. Maintains UH-72A aircraft under FAA and manufacturer guidelines and contacts inspections IAW Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) Maintenance publications and special inspection criteria as outlines in FAA, OEM and Army maintenance and safety messages. Plans, develops and conducts proficiency training during the technician work week to a multifaceted workforce compromised of Full-Time Support (FTS) and supported unit personnel. Complies with safety, fire, security, environmental, a housekeeping regulations. WORKING CONDITIONS: The incumbent works inside and outside in inclement weather, on icy or slippery ramps, aircraft surfaces and work stands, and in temperature and humidity extremes and is subject to the danger from exposure to an environment of toxic fumes, high pressure air and fluids, fast actuating metal aircraft surfaces, such as rotor heads, landing gear, engine noise, heat, blast, intake suction, fast moving main gear box devices, rotating shafts, cartridge actuating devices, electrical voltage, fire and explosion caused by aircraft fuels, solvents, lubricants, paints and dusts, sharp edges, confined spaces. PHYSICAL EFFORT: The incumbent is required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing over 50 pounds.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience that has provided the candidate with the skill to remove and replace aircraft parts, accessories, and components, and to make adjustments and settings according to established specifications. Must be skilled in the use of hand tools and test equipment. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 18 months of specialized experience in the following: Experience installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Experience demonstrating the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. Experience performing duties as a dedicated crew chief. Experience performing, coordinating, and/or overseeing the work and any periodic inspections to be done on an aircraft whether it is alone, or with the assistance of other mechanics and/or workers. Experience coordinating the work of other journey-level workers in other trades to work simultaneously on the aircraft. Experience serving as the technical authority to advise on, examine, and approve all airframe, mechanical, electrical, and pneudraulic repairs of assigned aircraft. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of the makeup, operation, installation and adjustment of major interrelated and/or integrated aircraft systems, subsystems, and assemblies. Ability to do diversified work with tools and equipment, requiring extreme caution in maintaining close dimensions. Knowledge of aircraft components and maintenance procedures. Ability to diagnose, troubleshoot and determine remedy where overall knowledge of all systems of aircraft is required. Ability to inspect aircraft, determine mechanical deficiencies and analyze results. Ability to interpret instructional material, schematics and specifications for complex mechanical problems on assigned aircraft. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: For temporary promotions, the MOS and unit remains with the permanent position from which temporarily promoted. However, rank requirement must be met to avoid grade inversion. MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Application): Enlisted: E-3 through E-7 UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any aviation unit within state SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT: Training at the National Guard Professional Education Center (NGPEC) is a mandatory condition of employment, subject to availability of resources. NGB prescribed courses at NGPEC must be completed within 6 months of assignment to this position. Failure to complete course(s) may result in reassignment or termination of full-time employment unless extenuating circumstances preclude course attendance.
