THIS IS A TITLE 32 DUAL STATUS POSITION DUTY LOCATION: Theater Aviation Sustainment Maintenance Group (TASMG), Groton, CT AREA(S) OF CONSIDERATION: Area 1: All currently employed full-time permanent and indefinite personnel of the Connecticut Army National Guard. Area 2: All currently employed full-time temporary technician personnel and all current traditional members of the Connecticut Army National Guard.

Duties

This position is located within TASMG Projects and may be extended or terminated at the discretion of the TASMG Commander. JOB SUMMARY: The purpose of this position is to maintain On Condition Maintenance (OCM) and sustainment maintenance, to include limited Depot Repair Programs. OCM and sustainment level repairs are cost effective programs to enhance the readiness, availability, and ability to extend Army aircraft life well into the 21st century. NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERSHIP IS REQUIRED. This is an excepted position that requires membership in a compatible military assignment in the Connecticut Army National Guard. The major duties include, but are not limited to: On a regular and recurring basis, leads 5-7 aircraft mechanics, crew chiefs, and specialist personnel performing work on the aircraft production maintenance floor. Monitors the work of assigned personnel, sets the pace, passes along assignments, and assures that materials, tools, equipment, and stock are available. Insures that assigned personnel are fully utilized and work is accomplished in accordance with established time frames and priorities. Advises the supervisor of overall work operations, status and progress of work, causes for delays, problems encountered, and individual performance (e.g., additional on-the-job training requirements for individual employees). Works along with aircraft mechanics and specialist personnel performing journeyman work as required. WORKING CONDITIONS: Works inside and outside, in inclement weather, on icy, wet and slippery ramps and work-stands in temperature and humidity extremes. Work areas may be drafty, noisy and have toxic fumes present. Irritants such as aircraft fluids, dirt, grease, dust, paint and solvents may be present. Exposure to cuts, burns, electrical shock, strains and broken bones exists. PHYSICAL EFFORT: Required to climb, stand, stoop, bend, stretch and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Frequently lifts parts and equipment weighing up to 20 pounds. Occasionally lifts and carries items weighing 50 pounds and over.

  • Federal employment suitability as determined by a background investigation.
  • Must meet Compatible Military Assignment within one year from placement.
  • Wear of the military uniform is mandatory.
  • Direct Deposit is mandatory.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a secret security clearance.
  • Must possess a valid state drivers license.
  • Full vaccination for COVID-19.

Qualifications

GENERAL EXPERIENCE: Experience or training that has provided the candidate with sufficient knowledge to complete the work of this occupational series. Experience or training which demonstrates the candidates ability to lead other technicians engaged in the duties performed by this occupational series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Your resume and any other supporting documentation you wish to provide must clearly substantiate you currently possess 24 months of specialized experience in the following: Experience or training installing, adjusting, aligning, troubleshooting and functionally testing the various major and minor mechanical and pneudraulic systems on an aircraft during overhaul or modification. Experience coordinating the work of other mechanics, and scheduling maintenance to ensure completion of critical actions and optimum workflow. Experience demonstrating the ability to instruct lower graded mechanics, military and other personnel in the disassembly and re-assembly of crash damaged engines, transmissions, gearboxes, hydraulic components, and fuel controls sufficient for the exhibit to be returned to its shipping container. Experience which demonstrates the ability to plan, organize, and lead the work of others in fields directly related the repair function of this occupational series. Experience demonstrating the ability to perform administrative functions; to read and interpret a variety of technical publications used in the repair of supported equipment. Experience demonstrating the ability to provide guidance to others in work related directly to this occupational series. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Skill in more complex principles of aircraft mechanics. Ability to use the full range of complex test and measuring instruments and analyze results. Ability to perform airworthiness inspections. Ability to interpret instructional material, schematics and specifications for complex mechanical problems on assigned aircraft. COMPATIBLE MILITARY ASSIGNMENT: All applications will be considered regardless of Branch/AOC/FA/MOS. Incumbent will be required to be assigned to compatible military position within 1 year of selection. The selected individual may be required to attend formal technician school training. MILITARY GRADE (Prior to Application): Enlisted: E-4 through E-7 UNIT OF ASSIGNMENT: Any aviation unit within state SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS: This position is covered by the medical monitoring program. Individual selected must undergo a preemployment physical examination prior to appointment. This position requires a security clearance (secret) which the applicant must possess or be able to obtain a clearance within one year of appointment. For positions requiring the operation of motor vehicles, candidates must have a valid state driver's license for the state in which they live or are principally employed.
