This position is located in the National Finance Center, Government Employees Services Division, Government Insurance and Collections Directorate, Debt Management Services Branch in New Orleans, LA.
The incumbent of this position analyze, evaluate, and improve the effectiveness of the claims collection system and procedures.
Duties
Interpret a variety of laws, rules and regulations related to the Federal Claims Collection Act.
Review a variety of claims cases with various degrees of complexity.
Plan and organize work in order to meet stringent deadlines.
Report delinquent debts to collection bureaus.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.
- Subject to satisfactory adjudication of background investigation and/or fingerprint check.
- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below:
Time-in-Grade Requirements: Merit promotion applicants holding or having held a GS position in the past 52 weeks must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements. One year at the GS-8 is required to be eligible for the GS-9. Time-in-Grade requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Applicants MUST submit an SF-50 that illustrates time-in-grade and reflects title, series, and grade. No Award SF-50 will be accepted.
GS-9 Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-8 grade level or pay band in the Federal Service or equivalent responsibility in the private sector/pay systems that has equipped the applicant with the particular competencies to successfully perform as a Claims Examiner. Examples of such experience include: 1) Experience reviewing, analyzing, and validating claims; 2) Experience preparing monthly reports; 3) Experience communicating both orally and in writing to exchange or provide technical information; 4) Experience providing technical advice and assistance to agency representatives; 5) Familiarity and use of the Treasury TOP and Cross Servicing (CSNG) systems.

Education
Education cannot be substituted for experience at the GS-9 grade level.
