This position is located in the Office of the Chief Financial Officer (OCFO), National Finance Center (NFC), Government Employees Services Division (GESD), Government Insurance and Collections Directorate (GICD), Debt Management Services Branch (DMSB) in New Orleans, LA.
The incumbent of this position analyze, evaluate, and improve the effectiveness of the claims collection system and procedures.
Duties
Interpret a variety of laws, rules and regulations related to the Federal Claims Collection Act.
Reviews a variety of claims cases representing all degrees of complexity.
Plan and organize work in order to meet stringent deadlines.
Reports delinquent debts to credit bureaus and responds to debtor disputes regarding credit bureau reporting.
Analyzes claims files to determine if all necessary collection steps were followed, and to determine what course of action is necessary.
Performs complex research and analysis following guidelines of pertinent rules, regulations, and laws.
Assigns work and explains assignments to Accounting Technicians and Claims Examiners.
Requirements
- You must be a US Citizen or US National.
- Males born after 12/31/1959 must be Selective Service registered or exempt.

- Successful completion of one year probationary period, unless previously served.

Qualifications
Applicants must meet all qualifications and eligibility requirements by the closing date of the announcement including time-in-grade restrictions, specialized experience and/or education, as defined below:
To qualify for the GS-09: One-year specialized experience equivalent to the GS-08 grade level. Specialized experience is defined as: in the Federal Service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector performing the following duties: 1) Experience using a standard set of rules, policies and procedures to review, analyze, and validate claims; 2) Experience reviewing and researching monthly reports related to delinquent debts; 3) Experience communicating orally and in writing to provide clear and accurate information; 4) Adapts guidelines and makes deviations to processes and/or methods to resolve specific cases 5) Familiarity and use of the Mainframe computer systems. 6.) Use of Excel, Outlook and Word applications.
Time in grade: One year at the GS-08 grade level is required to be eligible for the GS-09. Time-in-Grade requirements must be met by the closing date of the announcement. Applicants MUST submit an SF-50 that illustrates time-in-grade and reflects title, series, an grade. No Award SF-50 will be accepted.
